Compensation Range

$6,677.33 - $10,433.50 CAD Monthly

The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Summary

The Business Analyst supports, and works collaboratively with, the Project Manager in the execution of a variety of projects. These projects typically consist of process improvement through technology and cover the assessment of current state, recommendation of improvement initiatives and implementation of approved initiatives.

The Business Analyst II will provide expertise in the areas of requirements definition, business process analysis and design, functional design, configuration, implementation, testing, training and documentation to deliver solutions to the UBC community. Majority of work will be performed in a formal project team.

Organizational Status

Reports to an assigned Project Manager, while working closely with management and staff in UBC IT, and other administrative and academic units across the University. The team is small and the Business Analyst II is expected to work closely with the Project Manager, providing support where needed.

Work Performed

Specific Duties:
- Project assignments include but not limited to process improvement through technology in the areas of procurement and contract management.- Project types include but not limited to improvement of existing processes and technology or implementation of net new technology solutions.- Conducts current state analysis and requirements gathering in support of identifying improvement opportunities and recommendations- Develops functional and technical requirements for recommended changes or solutions- May perform data analysis and data modelling as required.- May perform project coordination as required.- Builds and maintains good working relationships with project teams, business analyst peers, stakeholders, and vendors- Analyses the impacts of proposed changes to operational processes within the UBC community.- Expected to collaborate with technical partners in support of data structuring in configuration, as well as integration design and build.- May be required to support conversion of “offline” information into data loads in support of solution implementation.

Core Duties:
- Leads the assessment of client needs utilizing a structured requirements process (gathering, analyzing, documenting, and managing changes) to identify business priorities and recommends options.- Identifies, elicits, and documents business requirements, defines business rules and communicates requirements for the implementation of business solutions.- Performs end-to-end business process analysis and design, within the vendor solution and outside of it.- Works with the vendor, business team and stakeholders on the functional design to ensure business and project goals are met.-
- Leads short-term planning sessions to implement integrated business process improvements and documents discussion and agreements.- Provides consultative services and analysis to support business decisions and the development of policies and procedures.- Analyzes metrics to ensure for client satisfaction.- Prepares functional, system/configuration and program specifications.- Supports technical reporting team in the understanding of functional requirements, data and reporting requirements- Develops user test cases and validates test results during test and acceptance stages. Typically performs, but not limited to, functional testing.- May prepare project status reports and communicate status to client.- Maintains appropriate professional designations and up-to-date knowledge of current information technology techniques and tools.- Performs other related duties as required.
