**Job Summary**:
The primary role of the Energy & Sustainability Specialist will be to work with the Public Works Climate Action & Energy Management team to support implementation, monitoring and reporting on Tsleil-Waututh Nation (TWN) energy management plans and targets. This position will also support climate action initiatives. The position involves project management and engagement with the TWN community, other departments and building relationships with other First Nations and governments.

**Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Support work to complete and implement the TWN Community Energy Plan.
- Support implementation of the TWN energy efficiency objectives and policies in the Land Use Plan Bylaw and Comprehensive Community Plan.
- Review submitted energy reports, provide advice on policy compliance, expand and monitor building benchmarking data.
- Coordinate and provide technical support for building energy retrofits, informing energy efficient and low carbon initiatives, and expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
- Compile and assess data on community-wide energy consumption, renewable energy generation and greenhouse gas emissions.
- Coordinate and support TWN community engagement including surveys to learn from community knowledge, to build awareness and to inspire action towards achieving community energy efficiency, greenhouse gas reduction targets and climate actions.
- Support implementation, reviews and updates to the TWN Climate Change Action Plan and provide support to the Coordinated Climate Action Team.
- Support local community and household low carbon and energy efficiency updates, retrofits, waste reduction and sustainable transportation strategies.
- Connect with utility agencies and provide quarterly work plan updates.
- Attend energy management meetings/workshops and participate in training to grow skills and capacity.
- Mentor and help build education and local experience with energy efficiency, renewable energy, low carbon resilient opportunities.
- Connect with First Nations and other external contacts to learn from and share information about energy efficiency, greenhouse gas reduction and climate action opportunities.
- Other duties, as may be assigned, that are appropriate for this position.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's degree in a related field (building science, engineering, energy management, climate action) and related work experience; or have a high school graduation and a minimum of 5 years of related work experience in building and community energy management.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience with project management with expertise in managing or overseeing a variety of projects and stakeholders, and coordinating community engagement.
- Sound knowledge and experience with building and community energy planning, renewable energy systems and greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategies.
- Experience with conducting ASHRAE Level 1 and 2 Energy Assessments, and with energy modelling will be an asset.
- Understanding of the current and historical culture of Tsleil-Waututh Nation and Coast Salish Peoples.
- Previous experience working in a First Nations community and/or organization is preferred.
- The employer may consider an equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.
- Must successfully pass a Criminal Record Check.

**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**:

- Self-starter who is comfortable working in the office as well as remotely, via online platforms, and supporting a distributed team.
- Good organizational, problem solving and analytical skills, and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects or assignments, and consult with the supervisor as needed.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient with computers, Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), and various building energy benchmarking and energy modeling tools.
- Demonstrated flexibility, creativity and cooperation in adapting to changing work plan priorities.
- Ability to solve practical problems and engage with the community in a culturally-appropriate mann
