We are currently looking to hire Shop Manager for our assembly plant in Brampton location.

You direct and manage the shop floor activities of the manufacturing plant to meet/exceed project requirements, while maintaining the highest quality output.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Your contributions to the team

Your top priority is to provide leadership and oversight to manufacturing staff
- Hold employees accountable for performance against all project metrics
- Maintain the manufacturing facility at required levels in terms of 5S, production flow and maintenance
- Ensure all shop employees wear proper PPE and clothing before working to safeguard against production hazards

EXPERIENCE

What you need to be successful
- Minimum of high school diploma or GED
- 3-5 years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3-5 years of managerial experience required

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Take ownership and accountability of leadership responsibilities

As a leader, it is your job to guide others safely through their work tasks. Leaders are responsible for both the success and failures of the team. As a result, it is important to accept mistakes and devise a clear solution for improvements.

Communicate clearly and assertively to co-workers

Express your needs directly, honestly and in an appropriate manner. This approach allows leaders to seek the best possible outcome and helps to maintain a positive relationship. This is done by equalizing the balance of power and negotiating an agreeable compromise.

Work to create/maintain communication

Communicate necessary information to employees in an appropriate, receptive manner. Address situations involving safety/quality issues or anything that violates Harmon’s policies and procedures.

Provide prompt and constructive feedback on performance

Provide constructive feedback that is specific, issue focused, and based on observations. It can be given through praise or criticism. Be direct when delivering a message, be sincere and avoid giving mixed messages. When providing positive feedback, express appreciation and when providing negative feedback, express concern (communicates a sense of importance and care).

Have strong leadership skills

Have strong leadership skills, including: self-awareness, the ability to adapt communication to the situation and the ability to inspire and motivate others. Builds, leads, and develops an effective manufacturing team by delegating, coaching, and directing the team members to help them achieve their highest potential.

Primary point of contact for hiring decisions

Interviews, makes hiring decisions, and orientates new and temporary employees, ensuring all paperwork is properly completed and submitted. Involved in/Leads all shop floor personnel decisions, including terminations, furloughs, and lay-offs.

Engage and motivate employees to enhance production quantity and maintain high production

Encourage positive, desirable behavior that improves the flow of the line through feedback, incentives, rewards and recognition. Encourage employees to develop innovative ideas that could improve current processes.

Create a work environment that attracts talent

Create a work environment that will attract talent and recruit key skills needed to enhance and balance the needs of the team. Ensure knowledge, skills, and experience levels are taken into consideration in order to build well rounded teams and ensure the company makes progress towards the Affirmative Action goals.

Lead by example

Act like an owner and make decisions based on the greater good of Harmon and our objectives. Be proactive and accountable. Recognize that there is always a part of the projects that you can impact in a positive way. Exhibit the behavior you wish your employees to emulate.

Develop employees

Provide candid and timely performance feedback, coaching and mentoring. Assess talent and provide appropriate support for individual development and progression, including succession planning in key positions.

Train new and current employees

Hold employees accountable for performance

Ensure employees are performing at high standards with regards to safety, quality, delivery, productivity and training.

Create a productive and positive work environment

Exhibit positive employee relations, communication, consistency in practices, and accountability. Identify required staffing levels (both current and future) for active and upcoming projects.

Provide leadership and oversight to manufacturing plant

Provide leadership and oversight to manufacturing floor level staff, including accountability for performance against all project metrics including safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and training.

Manage production of shop personnel

Ensure employees are working diligently to meet production goals and adhere to Harmon's 5S visual management by motivating, answering questions and providing support when needed.
