$5,906.25 - $8,508.42 CAD Monthly

In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Description Summary

Working with the Student Health and Wellbeing unit as part of the Health Equity, Promotion and Education team, the Health Promotion Specialist is responsible for supporting student wellbeing and success through health education and/or health promotion initiatives, programs and projects, with the Okanagan Charter for Health Promoting Universities and Colleges as a key guiding framework.

Program development will include designing and delivering evidence-based approaches to support student wellbeing and student leadership and assessing the outcomes of a variety of programs. The Health Promotion Specialist will manage programs and projects that enhance student wellbeing and will work strategically with students, student organizations, staff, and faculty in a variety of departments, across Faculties and with other student service areas. Evening and weekend work may be required, as well as Remote and In Person Work at the Wellness Centre. Teamwork and collaboration are essential.

Organizational Status

The Health Equity, Promotion and Education (HEPE) unit facilitates and enhances the student health and wellbeing learning through health promotion, projects, and initiatives. Through a stepped care approach, HEPE works collaboratively across Student Health and Wellbeing (SHW) to support student health and wellbeing and learning goals.

Work Performed

Major responsibilities fall into the following areas:
1.Capacity building for staff, faculty and TAs to support student wellbeing and advance health equity
- Plan, implement and evaluate effectiveness of workshops focused on supporting students who are experiencing wellness or mental health challenges.
- Design, develop, deliver, and evaluate resources to support and enhance student wellbeing.
- Collaborate with other units to deliver programs that build campus capacity to support student wellbeing.
- Offer leadership to wellbeing champions across campus.
- Collaborate with Human Resources colleagues to identify points of collaboration around capacity.

2. Student leader development to promote student wellbeing and health equity
- Plan, implement, deliver and evaluate undergraduate and graduate student learning and professional development programs (in person and online), resources, and activities to build capacity for peer leadership in wellness education and health promotion.
- Liaise with the AMS/GSS and other student organizations to help to enhance the quality and range of experience available to student leaders.
- Provide liaison, support and assistance to Faculties and other units, such as International Student Development for their student leadership development in wellness education and health promotion.
- Participate on cross campus committees to foster student leadership in health education and health promotion.

4. Campus-wide health promotion
- Collaborate with campus partners to develop initiatives and programs that effectively promote student wellbeing and advance health equity, using the Wellbeing Strategic Framework and the Okanagan Charter as a roadmap.
- Represent Health Promotion and Education on campus-wide health promotion committees and working groups.
- Develop and collaborate on projects that promote wellbeing in learning environments and health equity.

5. Campus-wide wellness education
- Develop new education and outreach initiatives within Health Promotion and Education which support the mandate of the unit to create a healthier campus environment which supports their learning and academic success and targets equity deserving groups.
- Prepare and facilitate educational workshops, training, or other professional development sessions for various audiences and mediums, especially equity deserving groups.
- Respond appropriately and with evidence to emerging and diverse wellness issues related to campus communities, specifically equity deserving groups.
- Develop and provide wellness education resources and communications for graduate and international students and the staff and faculty to who support them.
