Job Summary

The Manager - Health Promotion will be responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining and assessing student-centered health and wellbeing programs and services to advance the unit’s goals of student wellbeing, success and retention and belonging. The Manager is key to the successful implementation of Health Equity, Promotion and Education unit plan, providing operational oversight for the wide range of activities, ensuring priorities are addressed in accordance with the strategic plan, cultivating cross-team consistency and coherence in the initiating, planning and implementation of operational elements, monitoring for effectiveness, and analyzing for achievement of results. The Manager’s main responsibilities will include leadership and supervisory duties, as well as management of the delivery of programs and services for Healthy Living, including Food Security. This position plays a key role in the sustained growth and development of effective program and service delivery for Student Health and Wellbeing of current students on the UBC Vancouver campus.

Organizational Status

Reports to the Director, Health Equity, Promotion and Education. The Manager works closely with leadership staff in Student Health and Wellbeing, students, alumni and the broader UBC campus managers and administrators as well as Faculty partners. The Manager participates in policy development and planning as well as troubleshoots problems that arise in the course of the annual student cycle and initiates resolutions. This position identifies best practices for functional areas of responsibility which include student front desk services, student assistant hiring, student-led programs and services. The Manager provides key input to the overall strategic direction of the unit through participation on the leadership team.

Work Performed

Student Programs and Services:
- Works with HEPE unit staff to develop implement, evaluate and oversee a comprehensive strategy for delivering high-quality health promotion and education programs and services to students that is equitable, student-centred and collaborative.- Working with the Director, leads initiatives, programs and services in support of student healthy living, food security and social determinants of health.- Provides operational leadership of the Student Wellness Centres, including the Food Hub Market.- Provides leadership on the development, implementation and supervision of the Peer Health Educator Program.- Collaborates with Health Promotion Specialists (Mental Health, Substance Use and Harm Reduction, Sexual and Reproductive Health) to develop health information, social media posts, and workshops for students.- Provides leadership on the development and enhancement of programs and services that ensure greater access and cultural appropriateness to equity-deserving groups of students on campus.- Represents the unit at campus-wide wellbeing initiatives, working groups, and committees.- Develop productive and collaborative working relationships with a wide range of campus partners, including managers across the VPS portfolio, Office of Wellbeing Strategy, Enrolment Services, Alma-Mater Society, Information Technology, Campus & Community Planning, and Building Operations.- Leads a team of staff, student staff, and student volunteers to conceptualize, innovate, and develop student-centered programs and services in support of student health and wellbeing.- Oversees and sets program milestones and deadlines, tracking progress and ensuring delivery of high-quality programs and services for students- Oversees the development and delivery of training modules for student staff and volunteers to support a successful service delivery of programs and services- Implement performance feedback mechanisms for all student and health being programs and services.- Works collaboratively across Student Health and Wellbeing in implementing Team-Based Care.
