**Job Title**:Chaplaincy Community Development Worker

**Position Description**:
The London Community Chaplaincy provides support for children and families living in low-income housing complexes in the City of London. The London Community Chaplaincy is committed to respecting and supporting families facing the challenges of poverty, and we seek to offer pathways to positive futures. We are currently looking for a positive team player, skilled at adult community building to join our ministry team for a 10-month contract, 20 hrs a week. (September-June). Hours of work will be predominantly daytime Monday to Friday, but some evening and weekend work will be required.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- To build healthy, professional, and supportive relationships with residents, connecting residents to resources, and assisting with accessing basic needs
- To nurture and develop a sense of community and healthy relationships among adults and families
- Provide emotional and spiritual support to community members regardless of race, culture, gender, age
- Be able to listen without judgment and make referrals as appropriate and requested
- Seek to nurture and celebrate the respective cultures, rituals and customs of individuals and groups and lead in planning seasonal faith-based celebrations for the community such as Ramadan, Easter, Christmas
- Be available for general or specific life issues concerning grief, loss, identity, cultural and racial, addiction, meaning of life, loss of hope, marriage breakdowns, financial burdens, language barriers, loneliness, coping with disability, etc., as well as peoples’ triumphs, joys, and victories.
- To implement regular weekly adult programs, develop and/or partner with other agencies in creating new programs for adults which will be offered to support/enhance the community
- To lead in implementing monthly special events and activities for adults, such as Fall Day trips and beach days
- Maintain records, statistics, and other vital information according to policies and procedures

- Excellent time management skills, strong administrative skills, and the ability to multitask in an often-intense environment
- Have a strong sense of personal initiative, with the ability to work independently and in a team
- Ability to be flexible and accept changing responsibilities as the ministry evolves and adapts to changing community needs
- Must possess a depth of understanding regarding the realities and needs of children and families living in poverty, and a passion to build justice with them
- A positive individual able to demonstrate empathy and to always treat everyone with dignity and respect

**Required Qualifications**:

- Education: An undergraduate or graduate degree in a field of study related to pastoral care, counselling or social work from a recognized university or college.
- Employment and volunteer experience demonstrating ability to build healthy, supportive relationships with adult clientele; experience developing programs; demonstrated leadership and progressive responsibility
- Current police record check, including vulnerable sector screening

**Preferred Assets**:

- Current standard First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
- A reliable vehicle
- A significant connection to a faith community

**Job Types**: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 10 months
Part-time hours: 20 per week

**Salary**: $22.00-$25.00 per hour
