Community Development Workers support and coordinate processes, leading to strong communities where citizens are empowered to seek out opportunities to enhance their lives and impact their LMCH community.

**1. PURPOSE OF THE JOB**:
Reporting to the Manger of Community Engagement, the Community Development Worker will utilize an asset-based community development approach to empower, engage, and support tenants to effect change within their communities.

Community Development Workers understand the importance of taking on a new role, being changemakers and investing in people through community, connection, and collaboration. Utilizing an asset community-based approach, Community Development Workers incorporate a realistic understanding of tenants’ complex and diverse needs, and meeting them where they are, in a non-judgmental, inclusive, open minded, authentic approach.

**2. KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Participate as an active member of a multi-disciplinary team with demonstrated flexibility in adapting to job demands and a dynamic work environment
- Tenant engagement, outreach, and support
- Conduct community mapping of tenant assets and needs. Document, analyze, and interpret data gathered to inform community development initiatives.
- Create and co-create community development initiatives
- Community partner liaison
- Complete reports and stats as required
- Participate in meetings, working groups, committees
- Prepare and submit funding proposals
- Act as the field instructor for BSW students as required
- Provide support for LMCH led initiatives, projects, and events as required
- Other duties as assigned

**3. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & QUALIFICATIONS**:

- College diploma or university degree in a relevant social services field
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a social services field
- Demonstrated experience with community development initiatives
- Demonstrated experience in organizing, promoting, and facilitating special events.
- Experience working with marginalized individuals
- Working knowledge of asset-based community development values and principals
- Working knowledge of harm reduction and low-barrier services
- Working knowledge of community support agencies and resources
- Training in non-violent crisis intervention, de-escalation, trauma informed care and mental health first aid considered an asset.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to successfully navigate a dynamic working environment
- Demonstrated initiative and positive working relationships
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands
- Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
- Proven computer skills, including MS Word, Excel & Outlook
- Ability to work a flexible schedule when required on occasion
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, have access to a reliable vehicle and carry adequate insurance
