Job Summary

The Technical Data Centre Specialist is providing the Service Delivery’s units with the highest level of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Electronic Data Management support, through the implementation of CAD software, document management software, and revised processes that streamline document workflow processes.

The Technical Data Centre Specialist develops and promotes the use of the technical drawings / documents while maintaining, optimizing, and refining the content to facilitate the communication of clear, accurate and required information between the different units. The Technical Data Specialist also provides mentoring and coaching to the Technical Data Centre Support Technician and is the point contact for Drawing / Document / Electronic data management maintenance.

Key Accountabilities:

- Responsible for production / reproduction, update, consulting, archiving, and storage of engineering-related technical drawings / documents, specifications, plans, standards, manuals, catalogues, reports, and photographs
- Updates and maintains the various databases with the most current drawings and documents, made available to Service Delivery units.
- Works with other TDC staff for editing, archiving, safeguarding, and distributing technical documents such as drawings, plans, standards, manuals, catalogues, and photographs.
- Provides assistance and guidance to engineers, technologists and project managers in the preparation of contract specifications / internal policies and practices related to the production of project drawings as well as reporting initiatives.
- Responds to a wide variety of drafting display and information requests.
- Creates and maintains national standards, procedures, work processes and tool sets.
- Maintains an automated centre for producing and updating drawings and evaluates / makes recommendations for configuration and purchases of CAD / CAE-related computer hardware and software.
- Monitors contracts for delivery of drafting services

Job Requirements

**Education**:

- Post-secondary education in an acceptable training program in CAD technology, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience in CAD technology.

**Experience**:

- Theoretical and practical knowledge of, and extensive experience with, drafting and CAD technology (i.e. AutoCAD) utilized by the company

Knowledge:

- Knowledge of computer systems and peripherals (i.e. plotters, scanners, memory devices
- Knowledge of machine shop procedures to provide assistance in creating production drawings.
- Knowledge of symbols, technical terminology used in electro-mechanical drawings.

Abilities:

- Proficiency in office software (i.e. Microsoft Office, Adobe, Sharepoint, Oracle, etc.)
- Ability to estimate the time required to complete a specific task.
- Ability to utilize a variety of high-end graphic and display software (i.e. AutoCAD, MicroStation, Inventor, Visio, Photoshop etc.) in support of client requests
