Unity Health Toronto is currently looking for a Research Finance Operations Lead to join a dynamic and growing team in a full time (1.0 FTE) position within Research. As the Research Department continues to mature as a research institution, its financial responsibilities, accountabilities and needs requirements have become more complex. For context, the finance portfolio within research comprises of nearly $140M per annum in revenue and over 10,000 payment requisitions alone per year. The Research Finance Team supports the effective management of funds for Research account holders. This includes grant and study budget preparation and monitoring, financial reporting, financial knowledge transfer and financial system training. The Research finance team also provides transactional accounting, expense processing and compliance activities.

The Research Finance Operations Leader role is designed to provide cross-functional research finance operational support to the department and key stakeholders in leadership. The Research Finance Operations Lead is a leader with qualities for creating, promoting, and training best practices into the department. Their key duties are to provide operational support on all transactional research finance activities, coordinating internal and external reporting functions, dispute resolution support, training and onboard new research finance staff, and continually improve on SOPs.

**Duties and Responsibilities**

The Research Finance Operations Lead has 3 primary areas of responsibility.

**Leadership/Supervision - Finance Operational Strategies and Partnerships**
- Leads, actively participates, and contributes in interdisciplinary meetings with different client groups.
- Participate in cross-functional planning activities between Finance, HR, Procurement teams and Business Informatics team to manage integration of Infor/ERP system.
- Partner with Treasury, Accounts Receivable across the network to ensure funding is received and deposited to the correct activity.
- Review current business processes related to payment requisitions and recommend improvements to efficiency and accuracy.
- Review and approval of balance sheet reconciliations.
- Implements appropriate systems to support the delivery of the day to day functional activities of the team.
- Lead and support the month end close process, including the deferral and recognition of revenue for research.
- Maintains an understanding of key financial reporting requirements (eg: UofT; CAHO, Research Administration, Other Ad-Hoc reports), Identifies opportunities and works with Managers, Senior Finance Management, Operational stakeholders and Business Informatics to streamline and improve existing financial reporting processes, and systems to drive efficiencies and ensure they are effectively implemented.
- Proactively drives improvement initiatives related to opening new activities, transactional processes, financial reporting, and other functions.
- Supports timely internal reporting and communication to the research community to ensure transparency.
- Identifies, and troubleshoots common errors in financial systems and processes, to find holistic, long term solutions.
- Supervision of Research Funding Agency financial reports, including ensuring appropriate funding agency interactions related to financial and corporate matters.
- Establish strategic and actionable KPI's aligned with organizational vision.

**Development of Operational Best Practices for Financial Reporting and Processes)**:

- Provide critical thinking in the development, implementation and maintenance of Research Finance's accounting policies and procedures, in response to current and ongoing financial management needs.
