This role will provide you with the opportunity to work on the ongoing public health emergency related to toxic drug supply (overdose crisis) that has disproportionately impacted First Nations populations, conduct epidemiological and statistical analyses using linked administrative health and surveillance data, and gain fundamentals of First Nations data governance.
**Title**: Epidemiologist, Toxic Drug Crisis
**Contract**: Term to August 2025
**Hours**: 8:30am to 4:30pm
**Location**: Anywhere in BC (Remote or Hybrid, 1 day at the office per month/as required)
**Bargaining Unit**: PIPSC (Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada)
**About the role**
As the Epidemiologist, Toxic Drug Crisis, you will provide epidemiological analysis and advice to a variety of fields including population health, health and wellness indicators, health surveys, development of surveillance systems, research approaches, data analysis, and preparation of data for internal and external audiences. This position is primarily focused on the response to the Toxic Drug Crisis with a focus on supporting the prescribed safer supply evaluation.
**About you**
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Epidemiology or Statistics or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Minimum 3 years of related experience
- Basic knowledge of First Nations traditions and etiquette.
- Knowledge of the Provincial Toxic Drug Public Health Emergency, harm reduction, and safer supply
- Knowledge of First Nations perspectives on health, wellness, and health information governance.
- Knowledge of concepts, theories, techniques, and principles of epidemiology.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Knowledge of computer programming techniques is necessary to participate in the development of databases and to write programs to perform statistical analyses
- Ability to do analysis with computer software such as Microsoft Office, SPSS, STATA, or SAS/R.
- Ability to plan, design, and construct epidemiological and statistical analyses and surveys.
