Driver - Home Support Services (Part-time Casual)

**Position Description**: A part-time casual opportunity currently exists for a Driver to work in Home Support Services within the Community Programming and Outreach Services division. In this position you will drive a City vehicle to transport seniors and assist them in attending various appointments, treatments, community services, shopping/errands or social activities that occur in Waterloo and assist them with getting in and out of the vehicle as needed. Our ideal team member has flexible availability and demonstrates compassion and enthusiasm for working with seniors.

**Rate of Pay**: $19.95/hour

**Hours of Work**:Up to 10 hours per week, flexibility will be required to accommodate scheduling needs which will include varying hours and day of work (Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)

**Primary Work Location**: Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex - Community Pavilion

**Responsibilities**:

- Providing local rides and door to door service to Home Support Services clients within Kitchener-Waterloo using a City service vehicle (van)
- Ensuring clients arrive to their appointments safely and on time, helping with mobility aids and providing additional assistance if required
- Completing a circle check prior to shift to ensure that the service vehicle is safe to drive
- Recording total kilometers driven each day
- General maintenance of the service vehicle including fuelling, ensuring the interior and exterior are clean and taking the vehicle to service appointments
- Other duties as assigned

**Minimum qualifications**:

- Previous experience working or volunteering with seniors
- Excellent interpersonal skills and being compassionate and sensitive to the needs of seniors
- Comfortable driving a larger vehicle (van) and driving in various types of weather, previous work or volunteer experience as a driver an asset
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Good knowledge of local city streets and the ability to navigate effectively using maps
- Access to a home computer and printer
- Physically able to provide assistance to clients with mobility issues and carry groceries
- Standard First Aid/CPR (or willing to obtain within first 6 months of employment)
- Must have a G driver’s license with a satisfactory driver’s abstract check
- A satisfactory police Vulnerable Sector Check is required as a condition of hire
