Position Highlights

ICBC is one of BC’s largest corporations and one of Canada’s largest property and casualty (P&C) insurers with annual written

premiums of $4.8 billion and $24.2 billion in assets.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), with a separate independent reporting line to the Audit Committee Chair, the

Chief Risk Officer (CRO) is responsible for the enterprise risk management, internal audit and corporate fraud risk functions of

the Company. The CRO provides innovative leadership and direction on behalf of the Board of Directors and the Executive

Leadership Team to the strategic management of all significant risks across ICBC: by designing, implementing (end-to-end),

evolving and maintaining a best practice Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERM), by providing, through the internal

audit function, an independent and objective assurance that the Company’s system of internal controls are operating effectively

and by updating the corporate fraud risk governance and framework. The CRO also is the Co-chair for the Executive Risk

Committee that confirms the Company’s risk position for quarterly updates to the Board. This role provides leadership and

supervision to a number of senior leaders in the department strategically and operationally.

What would your day look like in this role?
- Develop and implement risk management strategies and policies that align with ICBC's goals. This includes establishing risk

tolerance levels and guidelines for different types of risks
- Identify and assess potential risks that the ICBC faces, such as internal and external factors that could lead to adverse events,

such as financial losses, operational disruptions, regulatory compliance issues, cybersecurity threats, and more
- Lead or supervise risk-consulting projects where the ERM team guide key business initiatives to understand and enhance the

changes to the risk environment, along with designing controls to mitigate such risk
- Ensures that ICBC remains compliant with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards effectively, develop and

implement compliance programs and regular audits by the Institute of Internal Auditors standards
- Provide assurance on the adequacy and effectiveness of the internal control system (IA) throughout the organization through

the completion on a risk based internal audit plan
- Continually evolve and modernize the Company’s ERM and IA processes & procedures - functionally as well as methodology

wise
- Direct the preparation of periodic reports to management and to the audit committees providing information on three programs
- activities, direction, resourcing and vision
- Through proper communication and reporting, ensure significant issues related to breakdown of internal control processes are

clearly articulated to ensure proper resolution and governance is achieved
- Direct and oversee the design, formation and management strategies to recruit and develop a professional ERM, IA and Fraud

prevention managers and staff. Actively coach and support team members to expand their capability and achieve their career

aspirations
- Overall accountable for ICBC all corporate insurance risk: property and business interruption; equipment breakdown;
commercial general liability; umbrella liability; directors’ and officers’ liability; fiduciary liability; and business travel accident - all

board members
- Build and maintain positive relationship with internal and external stakeholders, including executives, senior management,

board members, regulators, service providers, and sometimes external auditors, to provide insights into ICBC’s risk profile and

the effectiveness of risk management efforts

Position Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in a related field such as accounting/business and complemented by a recognized professional

designation (CPA, CIA, and/ or CISA) or equivalent combination of related work experience and education

institutions, or large size public practice accounting/advisory firms
