**Role Overview**
The Canadian Mental Health Association - Halton Region Branch (CMHA-HRB) is seeking a Full Time Crisis Intervention Worker from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm to work within the COAST program. The position resides within an integrated team of individuals who work closely together to provide meaningful programs to people affected by mental illness and addictions and to promote mental health in the community.
- Provide intensive short-term support to individuals calling the Crisis Line with crisis intervention, service coordination and facilitate stabilization help to clients with significant mental health and/or addiction issues
- Focus on strategies to integrate clients into the community
- Make referrals on behalf of clients to a wide variety of community programs and services
- Commit to supporting health, safety and wellness according to relevant legislation and agency policies and procedures
**Key Responsibilities**
- Develop strategies to assist clients to prevent further crisis and establish personal goals that move them towards recovery
- Work with individuals to create a holistic service plan, focusing on strengths and capacities, service coordination and the needs of the individual
- Community outreach and knowledge base of community resources and services
- Engage clients to participate in their crisis and recovery planning
- Work with clients to provide monitoring and support as they work through their crisis and recovery plans
- Provide support to clients’ families and friends as appropriate
- Complete all required documentation related to the support of clients
- Work collaboratively with community partners in a multidisciplinary approach
- In conjunction with the Manager and Team Lead, support the training and orientation of new staff in the program
- Working hours will be scheduled on a continental rotation consisting of seven 12 hour shifts over the course of a two-week cycle
- Other duties as assigned
**Qualifications**:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing, social work, occupational therapy or a relevant field. Master’s degree is an asset
- Regulated Health professional (Registered Social Worker) preferred
- At least three (3) years’ experience working with individuals with mental health and addictions issues
- Knowledge of relevant mental health legislation including the Mental Health Act
- Strong communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with community services and resources
- Commitment to the Recovery philosophy of service provision
- Initiative, creativity, flexibility and an openness to change
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Crisis intervention and de-escalation skills
- First Aid, CPR and ASIST certifications are assets
- Knowledge of EMHware database an asset
- Proficiency in MS Word and Excel
- Ability to speak a second language would be considered an asset
