MacEwan University is seeking an Accounting Tech II for a full-time replacement term opportunity with Financial Services, General Accounting department.

The Accounting Tech II is accountable for preparing, filing, and monitoring GL activities related to GST& filing tourism tax every month. Maintaining the escheated cheque records and reporting to the government. The incumbent is also responsible for generating accounting entries for payroll accruals and payroll bi-weekly entry posting. This position will assist the Senior Specialist, General Accounting, to coordinate information from different areas of Finance.

Key responsibilities include:

- Generating and processing accounting entries for payroll accruals, payroll bi-weekly, payroll deduction, and payroll donation deduction entries.
- Dealing with issues related to payroll journal entry including successful upload and other possible errors by contacting ITS and payroll area.
- Identifying issues related to payroll donation deductions.
- Completing account reconciliation related to PO accruals, identifying, and investigating the issues related to this account.
- Updating PeopleSoft foreign currency exchange rates
- Monitoring uncashed and stale dated cheques monthly, and coordinating with other departments when reissuing the payment, including contacting property owners, per Alberta Government regulation.
- Processing Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries payment entries in Financial Edge
- Maintaining & updating process documentation and making recommendations for process improvement if necessary.
- Filing B2 amendments
- Administrating Petty Cash bimonthly and year-end reports and surprise count.
- Completing T4A slips amendment and filing the amendments to CRA.
- Completing long-term debt payment and interest journal entries and related work papers.
- Filing and ensuring payment of Tourism Tax on a monthly basis and maintaining Tourism Tax year-by-year comparison worksheet.
- Filing of University's GST/HST on a monthly basis, which includes preparing a GST worksheet, reviewing coding activities, and maintaining a year-by-year comparison worksheet.
- Preparing account reconciliations and working papers.
- Conducting internal control’s function and monitoring the effectiveness of control functions embedded in the above activities.
- Ad-hoc assignments as assigned by Senior Specialist and Manager, General Accounting.
- Providing backup support for other team members upon request.

**Qualifications**
- A minimum of an Accounting or Business diploma with an accounting focus.
- A minimum of two (2) years of accounting-related experience.
- Working experience with PeopleSoft would be considered an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
