The focus of the Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness (OHSW) department is to support the health, safety, and wellbeing of our staff, physicians, volunteers, and learners. As a supportive department our programming is highly collaborative and highly integrated throughout the organization. The department holds a great deal of responsibility in relation to legislative requirements and has a significant influence on the overall culture of the organization.

**Job Summary**:
**What the Role Is**

Reporting to the Director, Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness, the Manager, Staff Safety directs, controls and evaluates the delivery of department services. They are responsible for translating decisions of the program leadership into execution, by utilizing relationship management and working with internal and external stakeholders to achieve the necessary outcomes. The Manager ensures their team and department operations are aligned with our mission, vision and values, while working together to successfully achieve our strategic objectives.

This role is accountable for day-to-day department activities, including the management of the Occupational Health and Safety Services (OHSS) team, the Workplace Violence team, and the Ergonomics team. Additional accountabilities include the management of material resources, day-to-day staffing and scheduling, risk and utilization measurements, and facilitation of improvement initiatives and change management, while operating within approved operational budgets and financial guidelines and controls. A major focus of the role is fostering effective working relationships and networks within the team/unit and with other teams across the organization.

There is a great deal of accountability associated with this role as it is responsible for several legislative responsibilities associated with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Workers Safety and Insurance Act, and the Ministry of Labour. This role will also interact regularly with unions and will provide guidance and oversight for the Joint Health and Safety Committee.

**What Skills Are Needed**
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) Act, and Ministry of Labour (MOL) requirements
- Experience collaborating with trade unions and knowledge of Joint Health and Safety Committee requirements as stated under the Occupational Health and Safety Act
