Material Control Supervisor

Cad Railway has other facilities in Calgary, Lethbridge (under Caltrax banner) and has recently been selected by the ONxpress Transportation Partners association to provide all legacy fleet maintenance services for the Metrolinx rail fleet of approximately 1000 bi-level coaches and 90 locomotives. Cad Railway’s delivery team will operate and maintain Metrolinx’s rail maintenance facilities in Etobicoke and Whitby, as well as in multiple overnight along with mid-day light servicing facilities located across the Metrolinx train service area.
**Summary of the role**:
The Material Control Supervisor will be responsible for providing supervision and the management of all aspects of the front-line material handling for the Metrolinx’s Legacy Fleet Maintenance operations. This individual will collaborate with the management team, customers, suppliers, partners and involved stakeholders.
Reporting to the Inventory Manager, will be responsible for ensuring on-time presentation of materials to the point of use. This also includes being accountable for the kitting of parts and overall shortage management.
**Core Accountabilities**:
- Confirm that all HSE policies, processes and procedures are being complied
- Provide coaching, instruction and guidance to the Shipping and Handling team (Material Chasers). Supervise employees in their execution of their responsibilities. Manage all aspects of the warehouse and related areas
- Ability to ensure proper reporting and daily management of shortages. Ensure accuracy of the inventory
- Ensure parts and supplies are scheduled/delivered in the most strategic manner to support the needs of the business. Provide overall parts management and supervise the movement of all goods to the rail maintenance operation
- Understand the rail maintenance plan and needs and ensure alignment with warehouse planning
- Develop, identify, implement, and actively participate in the continuous improvement of Materials Management. Contribute to the creation of best practices, strategy, processes, and procedures to improve operational performance
- Ability to develop KPI’s and present data
- Prepare senior management relating any potential complications
- Work with the team to prepare and create recurrent reports that are requested by operations or higher
- Comply with the company’s applicable policies and procedures as well as human resources’ guidelines
**Qualifications**:
- Ability to build strong rapport with the team and unionized maintenance personnel
- 5 to 7 years experience in Inventory Planning/Material Handling and/or a related field. Must have rail locomotive and passenger coach experience and knowledge
- Previous experience in a leadership/supervisory role
- Background of accomplishing business strategies
- Diploma or degree relating to the field of expertise
- Certifications such as forklift, reach truck, etc. is a plus
**Nice to have**:
- Experience working in an unionized environment
- Familiarity with other industries such as Aerospace
- Experience working in the rail industry with a comprehensive knowledge of rail equipment
