St. Michael's Pediatric Clinic is currently seeking a highly motivated, organized, respectful, results-oriented Lactation Consultant to provide breastfeeding support and teaching to postpartum families. Reporting to the Clinical Leader Manager, you will be responsible to provide high quality patient care in the ambulatory clinic, with cross-unit coverage for the Family Birthing Centre, inpatient postpartum unit, and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The Lactation Consultant integrates skills and knowledge in the clinical management of breastfeeding using principles of adult learning, education and research findings in the care of patients.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Assist in the development of appropriate educational materials for patients and policies and procedures for staff.
- Work in collaboration with patients and the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized infant feeding plans.
- Provide continuity of care for infants with feeding issues
- Role model to nursing staff to promote professional development.
- Collaborate in multi-disciplinary research related to human lactation.
- Maintain statistics on breastfeeding initiation and duration.
- Participate in hospital committees related to infant feeding.
- Facilitate a prenatal breastfeeding class, preparing pregnant people and their partners for breastfeeding
- Provide coverage in the absence of the Advanced Level II NICU/Family Birthing Centre Lactation Consultant
- Other duties as required.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- International Board Certification as Lactation Consultant (IBLCE).
- Current BCLS and Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certifications
- Minimum 5 years experience working with child bearing families and maternal health setting.
- 2 to 5 years recent experience working as Lactation Consultant.
- Current member of association(s) affiliated with human lactation.
- Demonstrated skill in staff/patient education and adult learning principles.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a demanding environment.
- Strong customer service orientation with proven ability to interact with all levels of staff and diverse patient group.
- Excellent communication and language skills, organizational skills, decision making/problem solving skills and interpersonal competence are essential.
- Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the Mission and Values of St. Michael's Hospital.
- Demonstrated excellent attendance record.
- Proficient computer skills
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 10am - 2:00pm
