**Manager, Operations Maintenance**:
The Operation Maintenance Manager directly oversees the daily activities of the Electrical and Mechanical maintenance in order to ensure optimal operation of shipyard facility, production equipment, production lines and equipment. The Operations Maintenance Manager reports to the Shipyards Facilities Director
The incumbent is responsible for providing leadership and direction to the Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance teams. Responsibilities include but are not limited to engineering activities, continuous improvement program, Capital project support, production and facility maintenance activities such as repair and diagnostic analysis of equipment, the installation of machines and equipment, preventive maintenance and general cleanliness and overall upkeep of Vancouver Shipyards and the W-Building Site. This position develops, monitors and maintains personnel and financial budgets for these areas of responsibility.
**Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue in North Vancouver. **#LI-LO1 #LI-ONSITE**
**What you’ll do**
- Manage and develop systems for monitoring/managing lifecycle of equipment at Vancouver Shipyards to ensure equipment is appropriately maintained or replaced in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
- Works closely with department staff and others in the shipyard to ensure a high level of safety, housekeeping, and environmental awareness.
- Ensures that maintenance processes meet safety and environmental codes, policies and laws.
- Manage and coordinate the work of multiple subcontractors and suppliers.
- Effectively manage and schedule variety of high and low voltage electrical work and maintenance.
- Attain department goals and standards; safety, quality, efficiency and costs.
- Foster a proactive maintenance culture, focusing on the implementation of a preventative maintenance program that is robust and balanced and use of predictive maintenance techniques
- Perform frequent on-the-job inspections to ensure safe working habits, safe work areas, quality of workmanship, efficiency of maintenance and repairs.
- Prepare work schedules and technician duty assignments as required to support the total maintenance program and the requirements of production.
- Develop on-the-job training programs for new personnel, evaluate and document training records, develop training requirements for new equipment and develop skill-level up
- grading test.
- Routinely inspect equipment for needed repairs and maintenance.
- Ensures all operating permits and inspections are valid and up to date.
- Provides leadership to the team and fosters an environment which motivates the team to fully use its capabilities in achieving desired business results.
- Establishes and clearly defines responsibility for staff on the team and ensures the ongoing management and support of staff and effective employee performance.
- Balances maintenance and equipment needs with production schedules in order to achieve maximum uptime and increased production.
- Identifies problems and inefficiencies, researches solutions, determines costs/impacts, implements the best solution.
- Works closely with other departments on equipment upgrades and alterations to enhance efficiency, and promote energy conservation.
- Ensures current documented maintenance procedures are in place for all Shipyard Operational Assets.
- Conducts required research and preparation of cost benefit analysis when new equipment is needed in lieu of repairs for existing equipment.
- Works with Supply Chain Management to arrange contracts for vendor services as required.
- Develops departmental budgets, prioritizes spending, and advises senior management on cost over-runs and outstanding equipment requisitions.
- Monitors and controls expenditures to established budget limits and prepares appropriate proposals for planned and unbudgeted expenditures.
- Collaborate with the Finance department to identify and document ongoing AFE (Authorization for Expenditure) requests for additional fixed assets.
- Advises and consults with Facilities Director on all renovations, repairs and maintenance to the Shipyard facilities.
**What you’ll bring**
- A degree in Engineering or trade qualifications in a relevant industrial field, or a combination or equivalent education and experience.
- Knowledge of shipbuilding and shipyard operations is an asset.
- 5 + years of managerial experience, with at least 2 in a production environment.
- A minimum of 10 years relevant experience in an equipment or facility maintenance role.
- A minimum of 5 years supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment.
- Excellent leadership and team building skills. Able to recruit, develop and retain high caliber people.
