The Strategic Policy Branch provides corporate leadership, coordination, analysis, and inter-agency communications services to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy. Its success is based on championing innovative approaches, and building and maintaining constructive and cooperative relationships with partners both within and outside of the Ministry. The Branch consists of three units: Legislation, Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) and Business Improvement.

The IGR team are adaptable and flexible to government, minister, and executive priorities. The team plays a strategic liaison and coordinating function across multiple business areas, supporting executive level bilateral and multilateral engagements; responding to federal and international initiatives and working across the natural resource sector.

The Director leads the Ministry’s corporate events, including the Union of B.C. Municipalities, B.C. Cabinet and First Nations Leaders’ Gathering and the Debates on the Budget Estimates, and leads B.C.’s participation in the Canadian Council for Ministers of the Environment and other federal, provincial and territorial fora.

The Director leads the provision of strategic input and advice to the Minister, Deputy Minister and Ministry executive on complex and sensitive intergovernmental and policy issues aligned with the ministry’s mandate.

The Director collaborates with senior leaders across the B.C. public service and officials in other jurisdictions on a broad range of issues to develop cooperative agreements and strategic approaches to supporting environmental objectives.

**Job Requirements**:

- A university degree in a relevant discipline such as Public Administration, Political Science, Public Relations or a related field and a minimum of five **(5)** years of **related experience**. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
- Related experience must include:

- Experience establishing collaborative relationships with senior leaders and executive in support of ministry and government goals.
- Experience working and leading policy development, issues analysis, strategic project management and program management in a dynamic public policy environment.
- Experience working in cross-government forums and managing effective internal and external stakeholder engagement and relations.
- Experience working in a complex and often contentious government environment, including working with elected or senior non-elected officials in other jurisdictions.
- Experience working with and leading diverse teams, empowering staff and guiding the change management process.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

- Natural resource intergovernmental relations experience.
- Experience managing staff and a program budget.
