**Role**:
Reporting to a Senior Adjudicator, SafeRoads Alberta, the Adjudicator will work within a complex framework of legislation, including the Traffic Safety Act (TSA) and the Provincial Administrative Penalties Act (PAPA), case law and departmental policy and procedures. The Adjudicator will provide adjudication services to clients throughout the province who are seeking review of their notice of administrative penalty in relation to impaired driving contraventions.

The main responsibilities for the Adjudicator, Impaired are (but not limited to):

- Render decisions within legislated time limits in a clear, concise and well-reasoned manner
- Analyze information provided through the review process including detailed reports to determine appropriate action
- Ensure fair process in accordance with the principles of administrative law and natural justice
- Draft, edit and render decisions providing clear, concise reasons for findings in accordance with current law and program standards
- Conducts oral and written reviews, controls proceedings and deals effectively with emotionally - charged individuals while focusing on fair outcomes.
- Participate in program meetings to harmonize standards, criteria and interpretations applied to various issues
- Make recommendations to improve program effectiveness
- Assist with program data collection and reporting

**Qualifications**:
Required:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, Law, Business Administration, Criminal Justice or related field supplemented by 4 years of progressively responsible experience working in a complex administrative, regulatory or criminal law context
- Experience in writing formal adjudication decisions considered strong asset
- Understanding of legislation including the Traffic Safety Act and its regulations, the Provincial Administrative Penalties Act (PAPA) and its regulations and the Criminal Code (Canada):
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

$2,716.64 - $3,550.90 bi-weekly ($70,904 to $92,678/year)
