Schedule: All employees must be able and willing to work within all programs and with flexible schedules.
Blue Door is a not-for-profit registered charitable agency founded in 1982 and governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. As the largest emergency housing provider in York Region, Blue Door’s mission is to support people who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness to attain and retain affordable housing.
**Job Summary**:
Reporting to the Support Services Manager, you will provide essential service support in this multi-functional role. The Support Services Worker will assist in the maintenance of the physical facilities, uphold Public Health standards of cleanliness, and provide food preparation services in accordance with the Canada Food Guide.
**Responsibilities**:
Provide food preparation services for Blue Door
- Prepare meals as required.
- Prepare and cook special meals for clients based on dietary needs and allergies.
- Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment.
- Ensure quality of food and serving sizes.
- Able to cook a variety of foods in large quantities and plan work.
Performs cleaning and light maintenance duties
- Perform light maintenance and regular cleaning duties.
- Assists in the monitoring and repairing of the shelters and advises Support Services.
- Regular cleaning of facilities within Public Health guidelines and standards.
- Light maintenance duties as required, i.e. light bulbs and minor repairs.
- Instruct and assist residents in cleaning private rooms and public areas.
- Miscellaneous errands and duties as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Maintain professionalism in the workplace.
- Working cooperatively alongside and supporting all Blue Door team members and departments.
- Adherence to the mission, vision, policies and procedures of the agency.
- Able and willing to promote harm reduction practices and practice anti-oppressively.
- Attend internal staff meetings and staff training as required.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all client and agency information.
- Utilizes effective conflict resolution skills in accordance with (Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training.
- Fosters positive and appropriate relationships with clients, colleagues, community partners and volunteers.
- Provides referrals and follow-up as necessary.
- Meets with manager on a regular basis and participates in completion of annual performance evaluation.
- Must be able and willing to work with a flexible schedule.
- Provide regular reports.
- Other duties as assigned.
**Occupational Health & Safety**
- All employees are responsible for carrying out work in a way that does not adversely affect their own health and safety and that of others.
- All employees shall learn and understand health and safety policies and procedures and will comply with them.
**Qualifications**:
- Safe Food Handling Certificate.
- Red Seal Certificate preferred but not mandatory.
- 2-3 years relevant work experience.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Fluency in a second language preferred or lived experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as an effective team member.
- Operate with a flexible work schedule.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
- CPR and Vulnerable Sector Screening Clearance. (Police Check)
- Reliable vehicle, valid G license, insurance and clean driving record.
