Summer Student- Social Services Worker

**POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY**:
To support clients and operate residential facility, through: Client’s admissions, intake processing, case triaging, primary support case work, referral, and clerical duties. Provide clients with encouragement and access to wrap around supports that ultimately lead to getting housed and staying housed. The work of this position seeks to prevent and eliminate youth homelessness, while meeting the human needs of vulnerable populations in York Region.
**ACCOUNTABILITIES**:
**1. Case Work/Facility**
- Maintaining ongoing responsibility for primary client housing-stability planning and housing-related case work.
- Fulfillment of daily SOCIAL SERVICE WORKER shift responsibility sheets.
- Maintaining personal HIFIS account and using HIFIS system for all aspects client case work.
- Manage contact with professional and agency support staff.
- SOCIAL SERVICE WORKER staff members are responsible for moderate cleaning and upkeep of facilities and resident quarters when property services staff are not on site.
- SOCIAL SERVICE WORKER staff are responsible to adhere to all tasks and responsibilities as outlined on the Front-Line worker responsibilities shift sheets.
- Perform other duties as required.
**2. Administration**
- Assist with the reporting monthly SOCIAL SERVICE WORKER performance statistics.
- Fulfilling and communicating all relevant Incident reports, including IIR (Internal reports) to the team, and CIR (critical reports) to supervisory staff.
- Completing daily front-line worker responsibility logs and bed board charts.
- Completing all required aspects of ongoing PEAC performance appraisal and coaching documents
**MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY**:
- Reports directly to: Program Services Coordinator(s)
- Indirect report to Program Services Director
**FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT**:
- n/a
**WORKING CONDITIONS**:
- SOCIAL SERVICE WORKER staff members work onsite at Belinda’s Place; approximately 95%. On occasion SOCIAL SERVICE WORKER staff have responsibility to leave premises for work related tasks (housing-related case work support, client, meeting, training, supplies purchasing, etc.), approx. 5%.
- SOCIAL SERVICE WORKER staff members work within the facility building, and outside of the building, onsite.
- 35 hours per week - shift schedule
- 8 weeks temporary employment
**EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS**:
- College diploma or equivalent post-secondary formal study related to social and/or women related services work.
- Bachelor of Social Work or currently enrolled in a program, is preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License is a requirement.
**EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE**:
- Experience working with homelessness.
- Functional knowledge and understanding of women issues related to homelessness, mental health and addictions.
**SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES**:
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of and a commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression and equity.
- The responsibilities associated with this position demand a high degree of confidentiality.
- Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
- Computer skills are essential.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Must have good interpersonal/time management skills.
- Good knowledge of community resources
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clean driver abstract
