**Summary**:
Native Child and Family Services of Toronto strives to provide a life of quality, well-being, caring and healing for our children and families in the Toronto Native Community. We do this by creating a service model that is culture-based and respects the values of Native people, the extended family, and the right to self-determination and through the integration of holistic, culturally based prevention services that are child centred, family focused, and community driven.

**Primary Responsibilities**:
Under the direction of the Supervisor of Native Youth Resource Centre, the Arts and Multi-Media Coordinator will:

- Provide fair, respectful and culturally relevant service to Aboriginal children and families, consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Native Child and Family Services of Toronto.
- Work alongside the 7Th Generation Image Makers Coordinator to promote and provide art related programming to Aboriginal Youth.
- Develop a 12 month interdisciplinary Aboriginal Arts and Multi-Media Entrepreneurship program for the Native Youth Resource Centre (NYRC) and Scarborough Child and Family Life Centre (SCFLC).
- Conduct outreach and promotional strategies to recruit new youth participants.
- Develop new partnerships for youth to learn and access resources and spaces available in the arts in multi-media.
- Assist youth in developing their arts and multi-media expertise to develop their employability and job-readiness.
- Organize training and workshops for youth to gain knowledge on building their own business plan and how to navigate the arts and multi-media sector.
- Plan and coordinate all offsite trips associated with specific programs and projects. This includes site booking, food ordering and securing additional staff supports to supervise youth participants.
- Maintain a database of youth, artist instructor, and knowledge keeper contacts within and outside of the Aboriginal community.
- Support youth in planning, coordinating and curating events to showcase or exhibit final projects.
- Support visiting instructors and knowledge keepers in lesson planning
- Develop curriculum to teach when outside instructors are not facilitating.
- Review, analyse, oversee and develop programming.
- Assist with development of new programs and funding proposals
- Recruit, monitor, and provide referrals to other wrap around supports as necessary.
- Advocate on behalf of youth to ensure all rights and entitlements are secured.
- Monitor and evaluate progress on a monthly basis.
- Develop and maintain case files and submit reports as required.
- Provide support and guidance around course material and homework.
- Provide lifestyle guidance, cultural enrichment and employment preparation.
- Support the development of essential skills such as communication, problem solving and team work.
- Support participants in obtaining jobs upon completion of programs.
- Foster leadership in youth and build a solid foundation of emotional support.
- Other related duties as assigned.

**Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills**:

- Post-secondary education in the Arts and Multi-Media or a related field. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education as an artist working with Aboriginal youth will be considered.
- Art and Multi-Media teaching experience or experience in a community-engaged Arts and Multi-Media program essential.
- Artist Portfolio required.
- Pass a Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.
- Literate in Aboriginal culture(s) and understanding of key cultural values. Knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal historic context.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to the life experiences and needs of the youth community, combined with previous community development experience.
- Knowledge of the Aboriginal visual arts community and history.
- Curatorial & exhibition experience considered an asset.
- Entrepreneurial knowledge and understanding of ethical business practices in the arts.
- Knowledge of CARFAC - union of artists considered an asset.
- Ability to work independently as a leader and self-starter.
- Function within a team approach to service delivery.
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal and community outreach skills.
- Understanding of diverse arts materials and practices.
- Knowledge and skills in the design, development, delivery and evaluation of group programs/workshops.
- Excellent organizational skills and computer skills.
- Excellent oral/verbal/written communication skills.
- Familiarity with community resources or equivalent based on training and experience.
- Flexibility to be able to work evenings and weekends.
- High level of initiative and autonomy, professionalism and respect for confidentiality.
