THE OPPORTUNITY

This position has become available to cover a maternity leave between 12-18 months.

Reporting to a Senior Manager/Director, Tax, the Manager, Tax is responsible for providing support on tax-related issues primarily associated with investing in private equity, infrastructure and renewable resources, private credit and public markets. The Manager works closely with BCI’s legal department, internal deal teams, other BCI departments, external investors and external tax advisors on strategic, complex, time-sensitive issues, often with competing deadlines. The Manager may also work on other projects such as internal reorganizations as well as engaging with foreign revenue authorities and governments.

BCI Tax’s focus is on ensuring BCI and its clients can access preferred rates and exemptions on investments across the globe in a manner consistent with overall goals such as investment governance and operational efficiency. Project management, the ability to think broadly across several international tax and business issues, the ability to develop relationships and work with multiple players across BCI, other investors and global advisors and management of tax risk and opportunities across the life of investments are key.

WHAT YOU BRING

Preferred:
- A professional accounting or law designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA, JD, LL.B. or international equivalent)- Minimum 5 years’ experience in taxation with a law firm, accounting firm and/or in industry- An equivalent combination of education and skills will be considered- A strong technical background in Canadian and/or US/International tax- A strategic thinker and team player who is pro-active and motivated to identify commercial solutions- A demonstrated ability to collaboratively engage staff and external advisors to research and solve complex and challenging problems- Strong interpersonal skills- The capability to manage multiple and competing priorities and to meet tight deadlines- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with the tax team, the asset teams and with external advisors- Completion of the CICA In-depth Tax course, a Masters in Tax or other similar training- Experience with domestic and international private equity, infrastructure and/or real estate transactions

WHAT YOU GET TO DO- At the direction of the Senior Manager/Director, Tax, supports BCI’s asset classes on analysis, structuring and implementation of new investments in private equity, infrastructure and renewable resources, public markets and private debt investments, working in conjunction with Finance, Legal, internal investment teams and with external tax advisors - the Manager may work across all of the asset classes- Works with BCI Finance and Tax team to oversee appropriate tax asset management including valuations, reporting on income, deferred tax liabilities, tax audits and monitoring of existing investments- Ensures investments are consistent with BCI’s tax risk management policy and tax strategy- Ensures timely delivery of tax due diligence deliverables for investment acquisitions, dispositions, and reorganizations- Works on corporate initiatives, management of existing assets and improvement of operational efficiencies- Assists the Manager, Tax Compliance and the relevant asset class teams in conjunction with Finance and outside advisors, to ensure that appropriate tax compliance is done with respect to new BCI transactions- Stays current with international tax trends and developments- Actively adheres to compliance and risk management policies, and participates in business continuity planning

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Finance department is part of BCI Operations and is responsible for investment and corporate accounting, valuation, as well as financial statements and financial client reporting. The team also leads BCI’s budgeting process, tax structuring and tax compliance, finance operations and performance measurement. Working with our internal business partners, auditors and external advisors, the Finance department strives to be a trusted advisor to our internal and external clients by providing timely, accurate and relevant financial information.

SALARY RANGE

BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off.

The annualized base salary range for this Vancouver or Victoria-based role is CAD $115,000 to $135,000.
