**Job Summary**

The General Supervisor, will oversee the planning, organizing, and carrying out of daily site servicing operations and sewer and watermain installations. They will supervise and give directions to tradespeople, heavy equipment operators, truck drivers, pipelayers, and other crew members ensuring work is completed efficiently and to standard. As a member of the management team, they consult and work closely with Project Manager(s) and stakeholders, and provide leadership on a range of heavy civil construction projects to maintain effective workflows and address operational and productivity concerns, with a primary focus on protecting staff health and safety. To ensure productivity and a good level of customer service, this role is relied upon to make decisions and escalate situations when approvals are required.

The ideal person in this role will have significant knowledge and supervisory experience in sewer and watermain projects, and have the ability to motivate crews to work safely and productively to meet project timeline and standards.

**Responsibilities**
- Develop operational plans, coordinate resources, and establish requirements with subcontractors.
- Coordinate and direct staff to complete tasks according to plans and priorities.
- Read drawings and plans and create and maintain construction schedules.
- Communicate and collaborate with other supervisory and administrative staff to resolve operational issues.
- Ensure a safe and healthy work environment and staff adherence to safety protocols.
- Monitor and track staff training and provision of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report requirements, and coordinate materials and supplies onsite to ensure productivity.
- Report on progress to project managers maintaining accurate records and documentation.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**

**Education, training, and experience**:

- College Diploma or Trade Certification in construction or a related field.
- 5+ years of significant civil construction experience in sewer and watermain operations and earthworks.
- Experience leading and supervising crews and providing direction to trades and subcontractors.
- Experience reading and interpreting drawings, takeoffs, and surveys.
- Valid Driver’s License, class ‘G’ with a good driving record and willingness to drive personal vehicle (mileage compensated) or company vehicle as required.

**Sound knowledge and abilities**:

- Knowledge of OH&S Act and dedicated to superior health and safety standards and adherence to protocols.
- In-depth knowledge of construction procedures related to aggregates, concrete, asphalt, earthworks, sewer and watermains, and site servicing.
- Excellent customer service skills and client-focused mindset.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills to create productive teams and resolve conflicts.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills to address issues and know when to escalate.
