**Fire Prevention Specialist (Day Shift)**:
The Fire Prevention Specialist at Vancouver Shipyards is responsible for ensuring the fire safety of all personnel and property in vessel construction. They will work to identify potential fire hazards and to provide direction to accompanying Safety Advisors and Supervision to prevent and mitigate them. This will include developing fire safety training and related programs, inspection of fire and life safety equipment, evaluation/auditing of hot work practices, and providing direction on suppression and prevention systems as vessels reach full consolidation.

**Duties and Accountabilities**
- Conduct regular inspections of vessels to identify potential fire hazards, inspect fire safety equipment and verify adherence to applicable standards and work processes
- Coordinate with and provide direction to Ship Managers to identify and correct deficiencies related to fire risk, and planning and implementing preventative measures.
- Review and update fire safety plans to ensure that compliance with all legal and regulatory compliance requirements is maintained.
- Provide safety training to stakeholders on fire safety practices. Provide mentorship to Safety Advisors and workers in the field about potential hazards and controls related to fire risk.
- Provide input and strategic direction to the Health and Safety Manager in planning, executing, and improving fire and emergency preparedness.
- Provide input and strategic direction on processes and training associated with the risk of fire.
- Participate and facilitate investigations relating to incidents and emergencies stemming from fires and fire-related events.
- Coordinate the training, personnel scheduling, and equipment maintenance of Seaspan’s Initial Response Fire Brigade team.
- Ensure operability of and monitor panels and systems used to manage internal alarm and suppression systems.
- Works directly with senior Management in Safety to ensure that all regulatory and contractual obligations with respect to fire prevention and mitigation are achieved.

**Qualification Requirements**
- Diploma, Technical Certificate, or other formal training in fire safety and fire suppression systems, firefighting, emergency rescue.
- Minimum 5 - 10 years of experience working in fire safety or related fields.
- Knowledge of fire safety regulations, in particular: BC fire code, NFPA Standards, BC Building Codes, and OHSR Requirements.
- Strong communication skillset including written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work as an integrated member of a team.
- Familiarity and understanding with integrated fire monitoring systems.
- Availability to work day and afternoon shifts, depending on work needs.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and access confined spaces without undue increase in risk.
