**Job description**:
**Position Purpose summary**:
The Safe Workplace Lead is responsible to provide advice to Edmonton Centre of Hope departments and facilities in occupational health and safety legislation and industry best practices. The person is involved in carrying out inspections and /or investigations of the property and operations in compliance with the requirements of the Health & Safety legislation, manage and mitigate risk and liabilities, coordinate the development, delivery and creation of the health and safety program including preparation of reports, incident investigations, hazard identifications, safe work procedures, policies, manuals and safety training.

**Accountabilities**:
**Risk Assessment, Incident Investigation and Reporting**
- Conduct regular hazard risk assessments of all facilities and implement safety preventive measures to mitigate risk and liabilities, including, but not limited to, the following:

- Identification of risks through site inspections
- Document review and obtain staff feedback
- Evaluate risks through risk assessment tools and determination of resident and staff vulnerabilities
- Continual monitoring of risk mitigation through strategic policy and procedure development, in conjunction with the Director of Operations
- Manage the Hazard Identification & Reporting process for all Edmonton Centre of Hope sites, including all corrective actions required and follow up where necessary to adequately address the hazard. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

- Advancing staff awareness and participation in hazard identification and reporting
- Managing and developing forms as required to be utilized by staff
- Collecting and combining inspections and creating meaningful reports from same from the collected data
- Investigate accidents and injuries that occur at the workplace, including near misses, and document same according to organizational policy, procedure, and regulatory requirements. Recommend corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
- Ensure all documentation, site safety forms, incident report forms, applicable provincial legislation and regulations, health & safety manual, emergency preparedness plan, pandemic response manual, emergency contacts, first aid centres, and all filing are current and easily available when required.
- Recognize emerging trends and develop and recommend proactive strategies to reduce, eliminate or contain risk.
- Prepare and present required health & safety reports to management and staff as needed to enhance awareness of workplace safety.
- Work closely with Health and Inspection Authorities, Safety Board and acts as liaison between the Department Managers and the relevant authorities during worksite inspections or investigations.

**Emergency Preparedness**
- Maintain and update comprehensive emergency plans (fire, power outages, security threats, medical, etc.). Plans should be reviewed annually and updated as needed to ensure they remain current, effective and incorporate past occurrences encountered.
- Conduct regular exercises and drills for different emergency response scenarios and assess the organization’s emergency preparedness response.
- Build and maintain relationships with local emergency services and external agencies to ensure Edmonton Centre of Hope’s emergency response plans align with community-wide response plans and services.
- Create and test communication plans and procedures for both internal and external communications during emergencies including notification systems for residents, families and staff.
