This role reports to the Director, Faculty of Health Professional Studies.

**SUMMARY**

KPU’s Faculty of Health Professional Studies department is seeking two to three Lead Facilitators to facilitate an intensive two-day emergency situation training course designed specifically for Correctional Service Canada (CSC) nurses. This two-day training will take place in person at KPU Langley twice per month (four days total each month). The training must occur on weekdays between 8am-4pm, and will likely need to occur on Tuesday/Wednesdays, or Wednesday/Thursdays.

The first day of the course will focus on reviewing essential nursing skills, including assessments, medication administration and IV initiation, as well as CSC-specific documentation, and CSC’s Emergency Drug Box and Emergency Trauma Bag contents. The second day will be conducted in KPU’s High Fidelity Simulation lab, where CSC trainees will engage in four high-fidelity emergency scenarios. As Lead Facilitator, you will be pivotal in ensuring that CSC nurses are well-prepared and confident to deliver safe and professional care in emergency situations, in alignment with CSC Nursing Clinical Protocols for Emergency Situations.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

- Thoroughly review and understand the curriculum for KPU’s customized two-day training course
- Thoroughly review and understand the four high-fidelity simulation scenarios and associated equipment, including high fidelity patient simulators.
- Thoroughly review and understand CSC’s Nursing Clinical Protocols for Emergency Situations.

**2. Course Facilitation**
- Lead the comprehensive two-day training sessions, ensuring a conducive learning environment
- **Day 1**: Conduct a detailed review of nursing assessments (neuro, respiratory, cardiac, abdominal/gastrointestinal, skin), medication administration and IV initiation. Provide overview of CSC-specific documentation, Emergency Drug Box and Emergency Trauma Bag.
- **Day 2**:Guide CSC nurse trainees through four high-fidelity simulation scenarios, including reviewing the scenario and learning objectives, pre-briefing the trainees, and debriefing with trainees afterwards.

**3. Evaluation and Reporting**
- Assess and provide feedback on the performance of the CSC nurse trainees throughout the training
- Provide constructive feedback to trainees to enhance their competencies and confidence
- Report attendance and completion status of trainees to Faculty of Health Professional Studies Office.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Current practicing licensure with BCCNM as a Registered Nurse, with no limits or restrictions.
- In-depth knowledge of nursing practices and healthcare protocols, with a focus on assessments, medication administration and IV initiation.
- Proficiency in conducting nursing simulation scenarios and using high fidelity patient simulators. If you do not have experience or knowledge on how to conduct nursing simulations using high fidelity patient simulators, you must be willing to come on campus for training.
- Familiarity with adult learning and innovative training methodologies.
- Prior experience in a correctional setting is considered an asset.
- **Salary Information**

Compensation for course delivery is a lump sum of $1500 per 2-day session and includes 4% in lieu of vacation based on the expected workload.
