**Overview**:
The BC Parks Foundation’s goal is to create the greatest system of parks and protected areas on earth. It has launched a 25x25 expedition with four objectives, including protecting 25% of land and waters, safeguarding biodiversity through 25 million observations of nature, helping people enjoy 25 safe and responsible park activities, and improving human health through British Columbians spending a minimum of 2.5 hours a week in nature.

The Foundation measures its success by meeting these mission targets, and by the number of supporters and resources (funds, volunteer hours, in-kind, etc.) generated for its mission. A key element of achieving its goals, objectives, and metrics is to make it possible for all British Columbians, especially equity deserving people, to experience time in parks, increasing their enjoyment, learning, health, and stewardship of nature. The Foundation makes it easy for all British Columbians to get outside, by providing resources bookable program, guides, and grants.

**Role Summary**:
This role will be responsible for working with partners, engaging the public, creating park plans, developing and overseeing projects, including infrastructure, and creating an overall cohesive visitor experience in select areas so that visitors can connect to nature and enjoy it safely and responsibly. This role will work closely with the Land team and the Discover Parks team at the Foundation.

**Responsibilities**:
The Manager, Park Planning and Management will:

- Develop, lead and implement management plans and visitor experience plans, including cost estimates, for protected areas created through BC Parks Foundation’s Parks Bank
- Plan world-class visitor experiences in newly created protected areas with signage, trail connectivity, accessible features, and other features of world-class parks and protected areas
- Liaise between regional districts, parks agencies, private park operators, community groups, First Nations, private landowners, and others with respect to newly protected areas
- Gather and assess general information, statistics, consulting reports and submissions from private and public agencies on management plans and visitor experience plans
- Manage infrastructure and enhancement projects in newly protected areas
- Liaise with BC Parks Foundation’s Discover Parks team to create exceptional self-guided and guided experiences throughout selected protected areas
- Collect data to map existing trails, vegetation, sensitive areas, and other features of protected areas
- Contribute to a constructive, results oriented, and inspiring organizational culture

All employees may carry out a range of functions beyond their core roles and are expected to help with advancing the organization as a whole.

**Requirements**:

- Minimum 5 years of directly related experience in park and protected area planning and management
- Minimum 3 years of experience collaborating with local government, parks agencies, and First Nations
- Undergraduate degree in land use planning, parks management, landscape architecture, environmental science or related field
- Research, data collection, and analytical skills
- GIS mapping skills including the ability to access and use digital mapping data
- Strong project management skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience in and demonstrated enthusiasm for creating exceptional visitor experiences

**Skills and experience considered an asset**:

- Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous issues
- Fluency in a second language
