Membre clé du service Immigration des gens d’affaires de BLG Impulsion, la personne retenue comme commis juridique apportera un soutien juridique de fond aux avocats et avocates, en plus d’aiguiller le reste de son équipe. Elle préparera et coordonnera les demandes d’immigration et de citoyenneté, assurera le suivi des dates importantes et du statut des demandes, communiquera avec les clients et fournira des rapports aux avocats et avocates et aux clients.
Your key objectives
- Working with corporate clients and their human resources teams to find the right immigration solutions for their employees;
- Coordinate the Application process including evaluating Applications to identify appropriate categories for qualification;
- Prepare submission packages for both basic and complex submissions and send to various government agencies (e.g. Service Canada, Citizenship and Immigration Canada, etc.);
- Draft communication to government agencies and clients;
- Undertake research on legal matters, processes and requirements;
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures;
- Provide assistance in the client in-take process and respond to both basic and complex client inquiries to ensure that Applications are processed and issues are anticipated and resolved;
- Enter expiration dates and other critical dates for applicants’ status in tracking system; and
- Deliver high quality paraprofessional services in managing client files
- Diligently manage sensitive timelines, ensuring productivity requirements are met
- Initiate and support the implementation of process improvement initiatives
- Ensure adherence to timekeeping and other policies and processes implemented by the Firm
- Undertake other duties as assigned by the National Leader, BLG Beyond Business Immigration

- Ability to research, interpret and advise lawyer on legal and technical procedures, statutes, and regulations applicable to area of practice
- Ability to advise lawyer on administrative and legal requirements
- Ability to deal with client teams and government bodies, both independently and under the lawyer’s supervision
- Anticipate and monitor changes to legislative changes to Regulatory policy and procedure and attend on public officials
- Excellent knowledge of legal procedures, statutes and regulations applicable to Immigration law
- Excellent knowledge of immigration statutes, regulations, policies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational, investigative, fact-finding and problem solving skills
- Ability to work independently with excellent judgment to follow instructions with mínimal supervision
- Ability to manage time effectively and demonstrates appropriate attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize tasks and develop organized systems and procedures for managing a high volume of work
- Ability to prepare for review by lawyer/law clerk various legal documents and forms according to standardized procedures, precedents and instructions
- Answer routine correspondence and initiate follow-up action as required
- Demonstrates knowledge of legal terminology, statutes and regulations, legal procedures, precedents, forms and governmental practice relative to area of responsibility
- Demonstrates knowledge of principles and processes for providing client service including meeting quality standards for services and evaluating client satisfaction
- Ability to analyze facts, determine what information is required and initiate action to obtain that information
- Ability to use logic, good judgment and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
- Minimum of 5 years of Immigration Law Clerk/Paralegal experience
- French/English Bilingualism is preferred
- Strong knowledge of Quebec Immigration is preferred
- Strong technical skills, particularly with Windows-based computer systems including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe/Kofax
- Community College Law Clerk/Paralegal Diploma Certificate (or equivalent)
