**You Challenge (next)**:
You will participate in a wide range of activities relating to the design, fabrication, operation, and maintenance of automated electrochemical systems and processes for clean energy, and will support experimental activities in the area of electrode material fabrication, analysis and testing for CO2 and water electrolysis using the automated platforms and test rigs. Duties will include:
- Undertake, independently or under the supervision of other technical officers or researchers, technical work related to the design, installation, and automation of electrochemical testing platforms, using interdisciplinary knowledge of chemical, mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering with a focus on electrolysis processes such as CO2 and water electrolysis.
- Selection, procurement, installation, operation, and maintenance of chemical and mechanical components including pumps, mass flow controller, temperature/pressure/level transmitters, sensors, different kind of valves, pipes, fittings, etc.
- Modification, maintenance, repair and operation of automated testing platforms, using knowledge of electrical wiring diagrams, piping layouts (P&ID and PFD), and automation software and programming languages (focus will be on LabVIEW and Python).
- Conduct modifications in LabVIEW software to troubleshoot/modify the testing rig whenever needed. Using programing languages to automate and run the electrolysis processes, to monitor different parameters in a physical system, and to take inputs and create outputs based on certain requirements needed for the process.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (in particular other scientists/engineers) to identify automation needs and requirements.
- Lead or contribute to the design, installation, modification, set-up, risk assessment and launch of new experimental set-ups or equipment; suggest the purchase of and participate in procurement and installation of new lab equipment, materials and supplies; ensure operational continuity of equipment by developing operating procedures, executing required maintenance, performing troubleshooting, overseeing scheduling and utilization, and maintaining inventory of consumables.
- Coordinate efficient operations of a multi-user lab by overseeing general consumables, chemical inventory management, lab cleanliness and hazardous waste disposal in compliance with regulations. Actively engage in the organizational health and safety programs by complying with all NRC occupational health and safety policies and regulations.

- Experience in installation, modification and maintenance of testing-rigs/set-ups for chemical/electrochemical processes.
- Experience in implementing automation and control systems for chemical/electrochemical processes, and knowledge of hardware used for data acquisition systems.
- Experience working in a wet-lab environment, including safely handling solvents, powders, and standard laboratory hardware.
Recent experience one of the following will be considered an asset:
- Experience in LabVIEW programming, including knowledge of its programming environment, dataflow architecture, and use of various tools and functions. Knowledge of leveraging other programming languages (e.g. Python, C++, other) embedding and/or function calling into Labview is highly desired.
- Laboratory automation (physical integration and workflow development, API development, coding implementation).
**Condition of Employment**:
Reliability Status
**Language Requirements**:
English
Information on language requirements and self-assessment tests
**Assessment Criteria**:
**Technical Competencies**:
- Ability to develop testing protocols for electrolysis processes, evaluate operating parameters, report performance of electrolysis, and train other lab members on the testing protocols.
- Ability to select chemical process components for flow, pressure, temperature control and measurement, and perform installation, operation, maintenance of the testing-rigs.
