Integrated Manager, Specimen Procurement

Grand River Hospital and St. Mary’s General Hospital are Building the Future of Care Together (BFCT) by developing a shared vision for the future of health care and new hospital infrastructure to care for more patients in our community closer to home for decades to come.
Led by the Joint VP of Redevelopment, the Building the Future of Care Together Redevelopment Team works collaboratively across both Grand River and St. Mary’s General hospitals to plan, design, and build all components of the redevelopment project together as a new, single organization. This plan includes: A new, state-of-the-art hospital site in Kitchener-Waterloo; renewing and repurposing the existing mid-town K-W Campus as an ambulatory and urgent care center; renewing and expanding the Freeport Campus in Kitchener for modernized and expanded rehabilitation capacity.
All sites would be governed by the new, single organization following the planned merger of Grand River Hospital and St. Mary’s General Hospital in 2025.
**Please Note**:New employees must provide documentation/proof of full COVID-19 vaccination status, a 2-step TB screening, as well as proof of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (chickenpox) prior to their start date at St. Mary’s General Hospital. Staff will require clearance from Employee Health and Wellness before they are able to begin any position within SMGH or GRH.
We currently have an opportunity for a **Laboratory - Integrated Manager
- Pre-Analytical (Specimen Procurement & Central Processing).**
**Position Requirements**:
- Current CMLTO registration
- Minimum five years' experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist.
- Three to five years’ experience in a supervisory and management role is preferred. Preference given to experience in Pre-analytical and Quality.
- Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Sciences and Medical Laboratory Professionals' Association of Ontario is an asset
- University Degree, Advanced Registered Technologist Diploma, or equivalent is an asset.
- Operating and Capital budget planning experience
- Experience with the management of a unionized team
- Knowledge of ACDx and the requirements
- Knowledge of statistical analysis (Lean six sigma)
- Good attendance record
- Strong interpersonal & communication skills needed to support and enhance inter-professional collaborations among all stakeholders
- Ability to manage conflict and cultivate a respectful workplace.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
- Promoting a positive climate, resolving conflict, and creating alignment within and across internal and/or external groups/partners to gain their support and commitment.

- Ability to work with computer programs such as Microsoft office (especially WORD and Excel)
- Working knowledge of hospital program operations, policies and procedures with in depth knowledge of Materials Management, Human Resources, Finance and Administrative Departments.
**Responsibilities at a Glance**:
- Manage the pre-analytical team at GRH and will also oversee all pre-analytical processes and procedures for the Integrated Department of Laboratory Medicine (IDLM) at Grand River Hospital and St. Mary’s General Hospital.
- Oversee and be responsible for employee hiring, performance appraisals, performance management and termination (as applicable).
- Provide support for the preparation of work schedules and time records.
- Collaborate with medical, technical and clerical resources, to integrate and implement quality improvement activities within the Integrated Department of Laboratory Medicine.
- Build relationships within the IDLM and hospital departments at GRH and SMGH to improve the lab deliverables.
- Participate in internal audits to ensure processes are followed and department is prepared for Accreditation Canada Diagnostics (ACDx) assessments.
- Maintain expertise with all pre-analytical requirements and knowledge in all areas of testing.
- Participate in Joint Committees throughout both organizations.
- Summarize and report on QI activities and results within the department and to hospital committees as required.
- Participate in client satisfaction survey development and administration as required.
- Liaise with vendors and representatives of commercial companies as well as the Department of Purchasing and Stores.
