**Position Summary and Scope of Service**:
Jordan's Principle is a child first and needs based principle that applies equally to all First Nations children residing on and off reserve. It ensures there is no denial or delay for First Nations Children in receiving essential public services that are available to all other children. St.Amant embraces the goal of Jordan's Principle to ensure that all children with disabilities have access to the health and social services they need in their community. We are currently recruiting a Counsellor to support this initiative.

This position is based in Winnipeg with regular travel by car, plane or boat to indigenous communities throughout Manitoba. Counsellors working with the Jordan's Principle program are required to travel to various locations across Manitoba. Some of these locations are in remote communities. If staying overnight in a remote community is required, Clinicians would be eligible for travel incentives.

Working as part of a team, the Counsellor works within a family-centered practice to strengthen resiliency and support an individual or a family by providing a safe, confidential and encouraging environment to empower decision-making and to overcome challenging situations. The Counsellor actively supports all program initiatives designed to strengthen services and program integrity. The Counsellor is responsible for evaluating effectiveness and efficiency of interventions to ensure outcomes that are positive and beneficial to families.

**Qualifications**:
Educational:

- Masters obtained in counselling, social work, psychology, occupational therapy or related discipline from a recognized university
- Current registration in good standing with an appropriate licensing body required

**Professional**:

- Previous counselling experience, including individual work with children and adults
- Some of the travel may include remote communities in Manitoba where travel by small plane and/or boat may be required in addition to overnight stays inn or around a respective community
- An understanding of First Nations peoples and multicultural group issues, customs, cultures, trauma issues and cultural oppression would be an asset
- Knowledge of community resources and how to make use of them
- Knowledge of CCPA Code of Ethics (Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association)
- Experience and demonstrated competence working with multidisciplinary/ interdisciplinary teams is required
- Knowledgeable of relevant legislation such as CFS Act, Vulnerable Persons Legislation
- Ability to work effectively with clients, caregivers and families, to supervise and teach others and to work harmoniously with others
- Must be knowledgeable of the literature in the area of developmental disabilities, of the history of support and treatment to individuals diagnosed with a developmental disability and of current trends, philosophies and practices concerning their care, education, work and lifestyles
- Ability to understand and support and practice interdisciplinary teamwork in order to provide services in the clinical, educational or living environment of the person with a developmental disability
- Ability to define a service plan with individuals and caregivers
- Understand own clinical limitations and seeks support and consultation for clinical activities so as to do “no harm”
- Ability to prioritize, structure and manage scheduling caseload(s) effectively to achieve targeted outcomes
- Ability to identify high risk situations and respond appropriately

**Personal**:

- Ability to demonstrate behavior consistent with the Mission and Values of St.Amant
- Possess a valid Manitoba driver's license and a vehicle is a necessity for community based programs
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to provide education and training in group or public forums
- Knowledge of the concepts of Continuous Quality Improvement (QI) and ability to implement services consistent with these concepts in a complex environment
- Ability to research, develop and deliver innovative programs, an asset
- Ability to work with autonomy
- Ability to deal with different social and cultural populations
- Positive, energetic, self directed and client focused
- Ability to serve as a model in cooperative teamwork, conflict resolution and process improvement
- Ability to work harmoniously and contribute to effective employee relationships
- Successful completion of a satisfactory Criminal Record Check (with Vulnerable Sector Screening), Child Abuse Registry Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, and a Prior Contact Check is required
- Proficiency in a Microsoft Office environment
- Possess the physical and emotional ability to perform the duties of the position
- Function effectively as a team leader and team member
- Present professionally with high standards for customer service
