Junior Building Maintenance Staff Technician

The Junior Building Maintenance Technician is responsible for assisting in the general maintenance and upkeep of the Band Office and other public buildings, ensuring that all facilities are safe, clean, and functional. This position requires basic knowledge of building systems, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general repairs, while ensuring the work aligns with AKV principles. This role will involve working closely with senior maintenance staff/contractors and will contribute to the overall maintenance goals of these assets.
**Key Responsibilities**:
**1. General Maintenance**:
- Assist with regular maintenance tasks, including cleaning, and minor repairs.
- Inspect the building regularly to identify maintenance needs.
- Daily walk-throughs both interior and exterior
- Snow clearing
- Landscape
- Custodial services
- Participate in preparing the gym for activities.
- Support for moving furniture.
**2. Plumbing and Electrical**:
- Perform basic plumbing tasks, such as unclogging drains and checking plumbing systems.
- Assist with basic electrical tasks such as replacing light bulbs, checking circuit breakers, ensuring safety standards are met.
- Ensure that all maintenance work is done in a sustainable and respectful manner.
**3. HVAC Maintenance**:
- Assist in the maintenance of HVAC systems by replacing filters, cleaning vents, and ensuring quality.
- Report any issue with HVAC systems to supervisor and help troubleshoot or arrange for repairs as needed.
**4. Cleaning and Waste Management**:
- Handle waste disposal in accordance with company policies and environmental standards.
**5. Safety and Compliance**:
- Adhere to AKV’s safety protocols, ensuring that all tasks are completed in a safe and responsible manner.
- Report any safety hazards, accidents, or maintenance concerns to senior staff.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and office procedures.
**6. Emergency Repairs**:
- Assist in handling emergency repairs, including responding to after-hours requests when necessary.
- Help resolve issues promptly to minimize downtime or disruption to office operations.
**7. Record Keeping and Reporting**:
- Document maintenance tasks and repairs performed, maintaining accurate records.
Communicate maintenance progress and concerns with the Manager.
**8. Other Duties**:
- Perform additional tasks as required by the Senior Maintenance Staff.
- Participate in training and development to improve technical and maintenance skills.
- Assist in the interventions of specialized subcontractors if requested by his immediate superior.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Management.
- Provides support and backup for other administrative duties as requested.
- Set up and maintain office furniture, equipment, and fixture and equipment to ensure a functional work environment.
**Qualifications**:
- High school diploma or equivalent (as asset).
- Knowledge and experience in building maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
- Ability to use hand tools and power equipment safely and effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to completing tasks to a high standard.
- Ability to follow instructions and work both independently and as part of a team.
- Good communications skills, both written and verbal.
- Physically capable of performing manual labor, including lifting, and carrying equipment.
- Previous maintenance experience is an asset but not required.
- Have completed a course in general building maintenance (an asset).
- Experience working with clients, contractors and responding to diverse demands.
- Have the physical ability to move heavy objects.
- Skilled in both verbal and written communication.
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
**Working Conditions**:
- Full-time position, with standard hours, and flexibility for emergency situations.
- Exposure to various work environments (e.g., office areas, mechanical rooms, outdoors).
- Some tasks may require after-hours work for emergency maintenance or special projects.
- Have the ability to work outdoors in hot (summer) and cold (winter) conditions.
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
**Education**:
- Secondary School (preferred)
**Experience**:
- Maintenance: 1 year (preferred)
