Water/Wastewater Technician / Plumber’s Trainee
As the Water/wastewater Technician / Plumber’s Trainee you will be responsible for the Water and Wastewater Operations and Maintenance, and you will assist in the Commercial & Residential Plumbing Operations and Maintenance of Montana First Nation. You will be under training to have a working knowledge of the practice, operation, and maintenance of Montana First Nations drinking water and wastewater infrastructure as well as functions and responsibilities in regard to equipment operations and maintenance procedures. You are a member of the AKV team and responsible for achieving and assisting in corporate goals through operating an efficient and profitable unit that offers a full range of water/wastewater and aide in plumbing for new and retrofit projects in the industrial, commercial, and residential construction sectors of AKV. In addition to this, you will also be responsible for participating in environmental assessments and preparation of, servicing reports, testing reports, specifications, cost estimates, work programs, work quotes and other project and administration duties as required.
Your excellent communication skills in both written and verbal form as well as your organizational skills and timekeeping abilities will ensure your success as you work towards completing deadlines. In addition, it is essential that you have strong leadership skills with the ability to provide support to the team and work together in the delivery of the full range of services. Also, we would expect you to work with the AKV Job Corps in apprenticing Montana First Nation members who are interested in the water/wastewater & plumbing trades according to the apprenticeship board regulations, as much as possible.
**Responsibilities**:
- Overseeing the water, wastewater, and treatment facility operation, maintenance, and management systems.
- Providing direct supervision and leadership to the Water/Wastewater Team as well as facilitating a team environment.
- Building the water wastewater team to assume full operations of the water and wastewater systems within a 3-year period.
- Leading AKV/Montana First Nation in compliance with legislation, regulations and standards in environment protection, public health, and safety specific to water/wastewater.
- Participating in AKV initiatives and representing water/wastewater & plumbing aide services at various forums as required.
- Knowledge and understanding of plumbing/water systems and their operation and repairs.
- Ability to conduct research and gather relevant information to develop clean water and wastewater treatment service options for meeting future requirements resulting from economic growth.
- Assist in performing preventative maintenance and repairs of water lines.
- Locate leaks, tears, blockages, corrosion, of water from property line to homes.
- Fixing or assist in fixing issues in water and plumbing systems by repairing or replacing these structures, or aspects thereof.
- Ensure that structures are in excellent working condition upon completion of each project. Provide documented reports.
- Consult with clients to identify and address any other concerns related to their plumbing/water issues.
- Advise clients on appropriate care for their water/plumbing systems.
- Providing plumbing services for AKV construction projects
- Any other duties that may be required
**Requirements**:
- 5 - 7 years of experience in the water and wastewater field
- Knowledge of small water systems
- Experience in Plumbing in general
- Knowledge of applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation
- Excellent customer service, verbal, and written communication skills
- Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook
- Proficient in understanding engineering plans, operational manuals, pumps, hydraulics, drinking water distribution, and wastewater collection system and plumbing parts and installations.
- Winter operations experience an asset.
- Participate in the strategic planning of the organization, if requested.
- Partake is training and professional development plans to improve performance and enhance skills.
- Oversee and evaluate the division’s operations for efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of operations and report recommended changes as appropriate.
- Work with managers to correctly identify staffing needs ensuring employees have the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies to complete their work safely, effectively, and efficiently.
- Establish and maintain working relationships and develop a high level of trust and credibility with clients, partners, subcontractors, and project teams and community members. Handle enquiries and complaints that require a response at this level and/or promptly report to the manager.
