Compensation Range

$6,551.00 - $9,418.83 CAD Monthly

In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Summary

The Student Recruitment Officer is responsible for planning, managing and executing all engineering undergraduate student recruitment and strategy; those responsibilities include overseeing the recruitment, marketing and promotion, and outreach activities for the engineering programs within the Faculty of Applied Science at both the Point Grey and Okanagan campuses. This position will plan, execute and evaluate our recruitment strategy with respect to our goal of increasing under represented populations - specifically our key targets of increasing the enrollment of international students, women in engineering, as well as increasing the enrollment of Indigenous students - to achieve diversity within our student body, while continuing to attract highly qualified pool of applicants.

Organizational Status

The position is within the portfolio of the Director of Marketing, Communications and Student Recruitment, and reports directly to the Associate Director, Marketing & Student Recruitment. The incumbent also works closely with:

- other staff in the Dean s Office including but not limited to the Marketing & Communications team, Engineering Student Services, and the Professional Development team;
- faculty and staff members in the Engineering departments and programs
- Current engineering students.
- UBC Geering Up - to create and reinforce pathways to engineering
- The university’s Indigenous communities including First Nations House of Learning and Engineering Academic Services’ Indigenous academic advisor
- The Indigenous transition programs already existing (i.e. Langara),
- Transfer universities and colleges
- high school teachers, counsellors and other student influencers (staff and parents),
- Government agencies
- Industry partners and sponsors
- The incumbent also liaises with colleagues in other faculties and university-wide services such as International Student Initiative, Student Development, and Enrolment Services.

This position will work Monday to Friday with a flexibility to adjust schedule to work evenings and weekends as required. This position primary work location will be at the Vancouver Point Grey Campus and will be required to travel regularly within BC. Additional travel locations will include: Alberta, elsewhere in Canada and may include international travel.

Work Performed

1. Implementing Recruitment Goals
- Responsible for outreach to high school students with a special focus on grade eleven and twelve students. Including:

- Develops and delivers presentations for workshops, online information sessions, and special events (on
- and off-campus) to promote the Faculty’s engineering programs.
- Represents the Faculty at high schools, colleges, and recruitment fairs, and at student information events online, on and off campus. This requires in-depth knowledge of the engineering programs as well as the University s admission procedures, policies and services.
- Manages the preparation of written and multimedia materials (e.g. power point presentations, web info) for recruitment and informational purposes in consultation with APSC communications team.
- Hires and manages student workers to maintain and add to content for the Eng Stories social media platforms.
- Builds relationships and conducts appropriate follow-up with contacts made with schools, organizations, government agencies, universities, students and counselors during recruitment visits.
