Why is this role important?
- The Manager, Governance and Strategy is responsible for providing vision and leadership to the governance and corporate planning and performance activities at CIHI. The Manager will lead the team responsible for corporate activities such as operational planning and reporting, performance management, oversight of CIHI’s governance structure - including Board and senior management committees, the strategic risk management program, core plan, and policy management.
- The Manager will ensure that the Governance and Strategy programs and initiatives support sound corporate stewardship and the advancement of CIHI’s strategic plan and goals. This role will have a high level of accountability and decision-making authority for identified programs/projects.
- What you'll do
- 1. Leads and motivates the team; provides clear direction; effectively delegates and monitors performance; provides opportunities for development; makes decisions that balance the interests of the team, the organization and its stakeholders; and leads by example by living CIHI’s core values.
- 2. Plans for and manages day-to-day operations of the department and special projects, ensuring that deliverables are met. Works collaboratively with management within the division and across the organization to achieve deliverables where required.
- 3. Develops the budget, operational and strategic plans for the department, reflecting priority needs of key stakeholders. Monitors progress ensuring commitments and quality products are delivered on time and within budget.
- 4. Works collaboratively CIHI’s Project Management Office and Finance leaders, and directors/ managers across the organization to conduct integrated planning and reporting, allowing coordination of linked initiatives and improving operational effectiveness.
- 5. With input and guidance from the Director and Vice-President, Corporate Services, leads management of Board activities, including planning and execution of Board meetings and strategic sessions, and Board succession planning.
- 6. Establishes and maintains relevant professional contacts on behalf of CIHI with external stakeholders such as Health Canada and the Pan-Canadian Health Organizations.
- 7. Demonstrates a continuous improvement approach and adjusts processes and tools based on feedback received to better support management.
- 8. Acts as a champion for the governance and planning/reporting processes (including time-entry portfolio management) to the organization and supports compliance and best practice for related activities. Promotes the Planning, Performance and Governance department within CIHI.
- 9. Provides key information, recommendations and ongoing progress reports to the Director to ensure effective communication of relevant activities.
- 10. Where required, manages or participates in corporate projects and other duties as assigned.
- What you'll bring to the table
- Masters degree in Health Science, Business or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Minimum of five years in management, building and leading teams.
- Proven experience leading and adapting to a changing internal and external environment using innovation and agility.
- Excellent skills collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in managing complex projects and various stakeholder groups.
- Broad experience and understanding of Canada's health system, knowledge of health information and its uses for policy development, management and evaluation purposes.
