Reporting the President and CEO and Vice President of Strategy Planning and Engagement, and working collaboratively with the Indigenous Relations Specialist and Indigenous Advisor, the Manager, Indigenous Programming is responsible for providing advice and recommendations on the planning, coordination and implementation of practices and processes of services for Indigenous peoples at Niagara Health. This role will be a key partner in our collective efforts to build a culture of inclusion, equity, and compassion.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of Indigenous patient experiences and engagement activities, with the aim of identifying and addressing existing barriers for Indigenous people accessing services at Niagara Health.
- Provide leadership and education on principles of Indigenous Cultural Safety, patient experience, and community engagement, with the aim of ensuring that the clinical services and physical spaces at Niagara Health are culturally safe and accessible to Indigenous patients, families, and team members.
- Works closely with members of the Executive team to identify critical barriers and issues impacting Niagara Health's commitment to providing culturally safe and person
- and family-centred care to Indigenous patients and families by assessing outcomes, gathering formal and informal data, recommending actions, and leading and supporting actions.
Listen to community partners and individuals with experience around Indigenous access to health care, and jointly identifies and supports the implementation of actions that will enhance the Indigenous experience at Niagara Health.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Lived experience (must self-identify as Indigenous);
- 5+ years' recent, related experience facilitating and managing consultation processes involving a wide range of groups, including Indigenous health organizations.
- Demonstrates a deep understanding of Canadian colonial impacts on Indigenous people in social and health contexts, including gendered colonial violence supported by significant knowledge of Canadian and Indigenous ideologies.
- Demonstrates an ability to incorporate approaches such as Trauma Informed Practice and Indigenous Informed Harm Reduction practices to mitigate the impacts of colonization and Indigenous-specific racism.
- Demonstrates extensive knowledge of health issues, and especially the determinants of health, legislation and public policy affecting Indigenous people.
- Demonstrates a deep understanding of internal and external partners and their role in shifting the Indigenous experience in health care.
- Understands the significance of incorporating traditional Indigenous perspectives and practices within healthcare and the associated complexities.
- Demonstrates knowledge of Indigenous communities and the territories in which they will be serving.
- Demonstrates the ability to facilitate and manage non-judgmental discussions with other healthcare providers around the existence of their personal biases while creating an environment for change in addressing Indigenous-specific racism.
- Knowledge and appreciation of the unique history, cultures, and rights of Indigenous Peoples in Canada is required.
- Knowledge of and experience with Indigenous-centred care and unique needs of Indigenous populations and health services.
- Consistent and regular attendance required
- Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset
