Consultant, Person and Family Engagement

**Job Description**:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Manager, Experience, the Consultant, Person and Family Engagement is responsible for ensuring that effective processes are in place to facilitate meaningful and successful engagement of patients, clients and residents and their families in health service planning; policy and program development; and quality improvement activities aimed at improving the patient and family experience of health and care.
The Consultant collaborates and communicates with site and community leaders, clinical teams and leadership teams to design, implement and evaluate engagement engagement activities in alignment with the Island Health Partnership and Engagement Framework. The Consultant focuses on the individual, organization and system levels of engagement and the core principles of people centred care. The Consultant supports the expansion of the Office of Human Experience into a robust program that will support an exemplary experience for patients and families across Island Health.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master's degree in a related healthcare profession and seven (7) years' recent related experience in a complex health care environment including progressive quality practice, education, project management and leadership experience.
**Skills And Abilities**:
- Ability to lead and facilitate discussions with people, families and communities who are partnering with Island Health.
- Understanding of people centred care and leading practices for partnership and engagement.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with the IAP2 Spectrum of Public Participation.
- Ability to effectively screen and provide orientation to patient partners and integrate their advisory role into site and organizational committees and working groups.
- Advanced competency in project/program implementation, management and evaluation.
- Ability to lead organization change and build collaborative relationships both internally and externally.
- Ability to interpret and communicate person, family and community engagement and partnership metrics and develop and evaluate audit tools that provide meaningful feedback to care and project teams.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to sensitively deal with complex situations.
- Strong writing skills, with the ability to support policy and practice standards development.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, assess priorities and utilize resources effectively.
