Job Summary:
- Under general supervision, this role will be responsible for preparing and processing the bi-weekly payrolls for all employees in Canada, and the quarterly payrolls all members of Board of Directors. Ensures compliance with all provincial employment/labour standards. Maintains accurate payroll records and responds to employees’ payroll requests and inquiries.
**Responsibilities**:
- Accurately and efficiently processes and reconciles the Canadian payroll; reviews and validates payroll for all Canadian employees on a bi-weekly basis and interprets and applies tax laws and government regulations to payroll and benefit deductions and reporting requirements as required.
- Balances and complete various third party payments, mandated garnishments by completing appropriate vouchers and documentation or electronic files to the third party or payroll provider regarding the deduction, employer/employee benefits and pension contributions.
- Investigates and resolves any payroll issues that may occur and ensures they are compliant with internal policies and processes.
- Calculates and processes any amendments, pay changes, etc.
- Processes employee terminations and sends ROE’s to Service Canada
- Prepares and distributes miscellaneous payroll reports to both internal and external clients.
- Works with internal and external Auditors in payroll-related audits.
- Maintains the highest level of confidentiality for all employee payroll and personnel records.
- Remains current on new legislation and regulatory ruling(s) impacting Payroll. Enforces adherence to requirements and advises the manager on required action(s).
- Assists in identifying recurring issues, problematic trends and recommends solutions to improve payroll processing function.
- Assist and back-up for Payroll Supervisor (as needed) to administer deductions and remittances with all mandatory government (i.e. Taxes, QHIP, QPIP, EHT, CPP/QPP, EI, BC Medical and Workers Compensation, etc.).
- Assist and back-up for Payroll Supervisor (as needed) to complete the fiscal and calendar year-end processes and reporting requirements in year-end reconciliations of PA, T4, T4A and Releve slips in preparation of year-end reporting to CRA and Revenue Quebec.- Education and Experience:- Completion of PCP and/or CPM (Canadian Payroll Association) designation or working towards one.
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in payroll and benefits administration, preferably in a multi-site environment
- Strong knowledge of employment standards and regulations
- Related experience and a working knowledge of general accounting practices is desired
- Experience in benefits administration preferred- Skills:- Proficient in MS Office, with advanced Excel skills
- Payroll experience in a unionized environment is a definite asset
- Strong organizational, problem solving, decision making, multitasking and communication skills
- Ability to exercise a high level of professionalism and discretion with confidential information
- Strong time management skills
- Communicates positive image of CSA Group in dealing with levels of employees.
