The Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture (NSFA) represents the interests of Nova Scotia’s agricultural community. Today its members account for well over 90% of all agricultural production in Nova Scotia and brings together farm businesses representing all aspects of primary agriculture in the province. The NSFA tackles policy issues that impact the competitive and sustainable nature of the industry and takes an active role in supporting registered farms through the delivery of programs and services. The NSFA supports farms by providing tools, resources, best practices, and training while advocating on their behalf.

The NSFA, in collaboration with Farm Safety Nova Scotia, is seeking a Farmer Wellness Coordinator (FWC) to support a culture within the Nova Scotia farm community where mental health and well-being are valued, prioritized, and protected. The FWC will coordinate the delivery of support and resources needed to foster and promote mental health and wellness throughout the farm community. The FWC will make recommendations to leadership on mental health and wellness programming to be developed and delivered. The FWC will promote mental health and wellness as essential to total farm health and sustainability.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Lead and implement the We Talk. We Grow. Blueprint for a Mental Health Action Plan for Nova Scotia Farmers in collaboration with the team.
- Empower individuals and organizations to become leaders in promoting mental health and wellness
- Lead the development of agricultural crisis response practices to support the industry in times of crisis
- Engage with members to understand and support their mental health and wellness-related needs
- Manage the development and delivery of resources, training and workshops supporting mental health and wellness for farmers, their families, and their employees
- Conduct reviews of mental health programs and services (e.g. peer-to-peer program, Farm Family Support Line) and implement tailored programming in Nova Scotia
- Coordinate the We Talk. We Grow. awareness campaign through the development of promotional materials and content for various communication platforms including website, articles, blogs and social media
- Support farms in fostering a culture of mental health and wellbeing for their employees as a recruitment, retention, and health and safety strategy
- Manage and build a network of specialists, subcontractors, and consultants to support the advancement of mental health programming, including delivery of agriculture literacy programs to the network
- Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with related organizations (e.g. Commodities, Canadian Centre for Agricultural Wellbeing, Canadian Mental Health Association)
- Support and coordinate member engagement and networking opportunities and events to support farmers in taking a break from the farm
- Support the organization’s advocacy and programming efforts in reducing stressors negatively impacting the mental health and wellness of Nova Scotia’ farmers by advising leadership on key stressors and industry trends.
- Manage and coordinate farm inquiries; serving as the first point of contact and mitigating issues

**Skills & Qualifications**
- Post-secondary degree in behavioural sciences such as social work, counselling, psychology or equivalent experience
- Program development, implementation, and evaluation experience
- Knowledge of the agriculture industry is considered an asset
- Experience working in rural communities
- Experience in crisis intervention is an asset
- Effective time management, prioritization, and organizational skills
- Effective communication, empathy, and relationship-building skills
- Effective problem-solving and leadership skills
- A Nova Scotia driver’s license and access to a vehicle are required

**Compensation**
- Starting annual salary between $56,000 - $61,000
- 3 weeks of vacation annually
