The Community Bridging Project at Toronto Pearson Airport provides expert intervention for instances of mental
health crises at the Pearson International Airport facility. The Fred Victor crisis intervention team will operate in
conjunction with GTAA airport security authorities and Peel Regional police to improve safety outcomes for
travelers, airport staff, and individuals experiencing mental health crises and/or chronic homelessness. Fred Victor
navigation for the vulnerable populations served. The primary goal of this project is to aid vulnerable populations in
achieving a dignified transition from airport shelter seeking, to community-based accommodations & services.

**What You Will Do**:

- Work as part of an integrated team of crisis intervention services who work in a coordinated fashion to provide

crisis response, intervention and follow-up to individuals dealing with crisis.
- Provide timely and appropriate crisis intervention to individuals including assessment, de-escalation, and conflict

mediation as needed.
- Exercise sound judgement in crisis and/or emergency situations and work collaboratively with external partners,

including the airport security authorities, Airport staff, Peel Regional Police, and Emergency Services.
- Provide follow-up crisis contact & referrals to appropriate resources and determine structured coordination

plans.
- Conduct regular assertive outreach to vulnerable populations in the airport institution. Assertive outreach

engagement involves actively looking for and locating the client in the facility as required.
- Provide support, information, referrals, and service to clients & their circle of care as deemed necessary for the

benefit of the clients.
- Respond to client’s emotional, safety and support needs as they arise throughout the shift.
- Work in collaboration with Airport authorities to meet service needs including formal reporting and safety
- enhancement consultation.
- Follow risk assessment guidelines and adhere to safety policies and procedures of Fred Victor and Pearson
- International Airport.
- Maintain confidentiality as per “Personal Health Information Protection Act”.
- Promote the values and mission of Fred Victor.

**What You Bring to the Team**:

- University Degree in Social Work, BSc. Nursing, or degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Must be a Registered Health Professional and adhere to standards of practice as per designated college.
- Extensive experience relevant to the primary duties of the position.
- Critical thinking and the ability to analyze information gathered from unbiased observation and communication.
- A minimum of at least three years of work experience with individuals with serious mental health & chronic
- homelessness concerns, preferably in both traditional and non-traditional mental health services environment.
- A thorough understanding of all the factors that impact an individual’s mental health and well
- being including
- the social determinants of health, trauma, poverty and homelessness.
- A demonstrated commitment to working through an Anti-Black racism, Anti-Oppression, Trauma informed lens
- Ability to integrate Anti-Black racism, Anti-Oppression, critical disability, 2SLGBTQ+ and trans-positivity, trauma,

recovery approach in support to mental health decompensation. Advanced knowledge of the issues that impact,
and marginalized/homeless populations is a must, as well as an ability to work with individuals in a respectful,
non-judgmental and consistent manner.
