This position is responsible for guiding the College in campus sustainability and environmental education and programs, and for continuing and developing new programs and innovations to promote sustainability through a systemic approach. The position works with management, faculty, staff and students to provide the knowledge, skills and motivation to integrate sustainability values and practices into the College’s strategic and operational planning processes, the management of its resources and operations, facilities planning and design, research activities, and curriculum. The position also develops a strategy to embed sustainability prosperity principles into VCC’s role as a place of learning research, a business enterprise, and a member of the local community.**Job Duties/Responsibilities**
- Works in collaboration with administrators, faculty, staff, students and campus committees on existing and new programs to advance VCC’s leadership in campus sustainability and environmental education. Creates collaboration between academic and nonacademic sectors coordinating common goals and opportunities. Develops new proposals, plans executions, evaluates effectiveness of initiatives and disseminates results.
- Serves as the College’s internal expert and consultant in areas related to sustainability. Recommends and helps implement new technologies and strategies to minimize waste, increase energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, enhance sustainable design and construction, guide purchasing, etc. Conducts assessments, compiles data and reports, develops targets, etc.
- Serves as an environment and sustainability educator of the College community, promoting sound campus stewardship and commitment to sustainable goals. Conducts environmental orientation sessions for all new students, faculty and staff. Coordinates the preparation of a wide range of communication and marketing materials about VCC’s environment and sustainable efforts to promote awareness.
- Participates on various college committees on matters related to sustainability and the environment.
- Represents VCC to externally through presentations, and membership and participation in related networks beyond the College, actively disseminating information about the College’s advances and activities. Identifies potential funding sources, prepares grant proposals, and assists with proposals for prospective donors.
- Prepares reports such as the Carbon Neutral Action Report (CNAR) and the Greenhouse Gas Report (GHG Report) for submission to the Provincial Government and responsibility for the calculation and submission of the college’s carbon tax to Pacific Carbon Trust.
- Performs other related duties as required.

**Qualifications**

**Education and Experience**
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field from a recognized educational institution.
- Five (5) years recent related experience within a public sector and/or multi-union environment.
- Or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

**Skills and Abilities**
- Knowledge of sustainability tools, standards, and reporting initiatives, life-cycle analysis, energy management, etc.
- Expertise in the latest trends, industry research, thought leaders, and regulations relating to environmental sustainability.
- Demonstrated ability with business case development and leading projects (from idea generation through to implementation and ongoing monitoring), ensuring multi-disciplinary objectives and targets are achieved on time and within budget.
- Strong oral, written and presentation communication skills with a demonstrated ability to train, influence and motivate a broad range of people.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to relate effectively to all constituencies.
- Proven leadership and people management skills.

**Salary Range - Prorated based on FTE**
- $83,799 - $111,732 - $122,905 annualized (Pay Grid 11). Normal starting salary placement is between $83,799 and $111,732. Compensation beyond the control/mid-point requires approval by t
