**Job Description**:

- We are looking for a Regional Communities & Environment Manager to provide leadership in the areas of Social Performance/Communities and Environmental Management for Discovery projects by proactively identifying and managing social and environmental risks, impacts and opportunities across a diverse portfolio of exploration projects in the Americas.

This role will be based in one of Group Discovery’s country offices in the Americas. These countries currently include Brazil, Canada, Chile, Ecuador and Peru. Due to the nature of the role there will be a higher than normal expectation for travel.

**Key role requirements**:

- Lead the external context reviews to provide social and environmental data to input into project shaping and decision making related to the operating environment.
- Support projects in gaining and maintaining access to land, helping to develop formal community agreements where appropriate to support project execution.
- Support delivery and provide coaching to Discovery projects in their social and human rights impact assessments for new projects and project reviews.
- Navigate and provide expertise in complex issues related to communities and environment; for example cultural heritage management, human rights, conflict management, artisanal and small-scale mining, water and biodiversity.
- Demonstrate a strong knowledge of international best practice related to Indigenous Peoples and Free, Prior and Informed Consent.
- Support Discovery projects in their stakeholder analysis and mapping exercises, engagement plans and social and environmental management plans.
- Ensure environmental and community related incidents are investigated and are mutually resolved with affected communities and ensure project level grievance mechanisms are fit for purpose and aligned to community decision making.
- Provide advice on Socio-Economic Development projects and environmental initiatives scaled as appropriate to the stage of exploration activity.
- Engage and coach regional SHEC team members face-to-face, virtually, or as otherwise required.
- Work with the Regional Safety & Health (S&H) Manager on the regional implementation and maintenance of requisite process requirements.
- Qualifications
- Essential: An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honours degree or equivalent) in a relevant technical discipline.
- Desirable - Postgraduate qualification is a relevant discipline.

**Role-specific knowledge/Requirements**
- Extensive experience in Community engagement / Social Performance and Environmental management within exploration, mining or similar field.
- Experience in managing multiple projects in complex jurisdictions.
- Fluent in Spanish and English (Portuguese desirable).
- Understanding of operational processes, competing priorities and key challenges/barriers to achieving SHEC outcomes.
- A demonstrated thought leader and considered an external expert in the Community & Environment field.
- Experience influencing the Community & Environment agenda across geography and levels of an organisation.
