Overview:
The Operations Manager, Aggregates, is responsible for leading and managing the business unit, including overseeing the operations of the Saskatoon Aggregate Group, The Portable and Fixed Plants, reserves, production and sales, marketing/promotion of Lafarge image and products, customer relations, safety, maintenance, purchasing, budget planning and control.

Manage the Saskatoon area aggregate reserves, production, and sales for maximum profitability and long-term success.

**Responsibilities**:

- To manage the activities of the Aggregate Division including budgeting, production, sales, land management and customer relations.
- Set up short
- and long-term plans to ensure the planned growth of the division and remain compatible with all other market forces and competitors.
- Identify capital needs to fit in with the strategic short and long-term objectives
- Secure reserves in all areas of the province to extend to a minimum of 20 years life and thus ensuring the growth can be maintained without undue cost.
- Administer and monitor the safety, training and overall safe work practices are conducted at all our operations and locations.
- Maintain staffing levels at the approved level and to train on an ongoing basis replacement staff.
- Assist in planning subcontractor crushing requirements.
- Meet with Rural Municipalities and Saskatchewan Government departments when necessary to resolve any issues.
- Review all test logs on all new property, review contract obligations and rewrite agreements.
- Meet with truckers and associations to negotiate annual prices and safety standards.
- Review previous years' operations

**Specific Accountabilities**:

- Abide by, participate in, and enforce all safety and environmental policies and maintain equipment in the same standards as prescribed with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Developing a stretch budget and working to achieve the key objectives and metrics outlined in the budget or other goal setting activities..
- Maximizing profitability and return on assets
- Sales, negotiations and customer relations
- Ensuring adequate future reserves
- Maximize all human resources
- Supervise and develop and coach key personnel to improve their skills and abilities.

**Dimensions**:

- Report to the General Manager - Saskatchewan.
- The sales, quality, production and logistics functions all report into this position.
- Work cooperatively with the Managers of other product lines (Ready Mix, Asphalt and Paving).
- 15+ employees.

Qualifications:

- Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.)
- Minimum of 10 years job-related experience with hands-on training including production and management.
- A demonstrated ability to lead
- An ability to solve problems and make incremental improvements
- The ability to meet and deal, at a senior level with customers, politicians and owners to promote Lafarge’s multiple products, abilities and image.
- Knowledge of various disciplines, including:

- Marketing and customer Relations
- Quality and Service Management
- Human Resources
- Must have skills in:

- understanding customer needs
- oral and written communication
- operations management
- problem-solving and identifying opportunities
- understanding financial/accounting principles
