Key responsibilities include:

- Ensuring compliance with the Safety Codes Act and Regulation, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code, and other relevant standards, regulations, or legislation to ensure the university meets its obligations to maintain a safe workplace;
- Utilizing and interpreting the Alberta Safety Codes and Regulations to assess the current state of MacEwan facilities for compliance and highlight areas requiring attention and improvement;
- Leading the development, implementation and maintenance of the University’s fire safety plans, ensuring all provisions meet the code requirements;
- Developing, implementing, maintaining and promoting safety codes, including policies, programs and procedures; and
- Coordinating and completing required inspections and audits to ensure compliance with health and safety, permitting, building and other safety codes requirements and recommending solutions for approval.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- A minimum of a 2-year technology diploma in a related field (i.e., Construction Engineering Technology).
- A minimum of five years of relevant experience in the building construction or fire industry, including experience working with the Safety Codes requirements or provincial equivalent if the working experience was gained in another provincial jurisdiction.
- Familiarity with OHS legislative requirements and experience working in a health and safety capacity.
- Knowledge of records and database management to quickly and accurately record and retrieve information.
- Experience or training in project management would be considered an asset.
- PMP, CRSP and CET designation would be considered an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
