- The Operational Lead provides strategic direction to ensure that citizen, Council, and partner expectations are met. This position is required to respond quickly to changes in the social environment in the region’s parks and to ensure staff safety is prioritized. Additionally, this role is responsible for strategically incorporating competing expectations from multiple internal and external partners. Primary duties include:

- Establish and develop annual work plans to address maintenance priorities and contingencies for unplanned requests and evaluate progress.
Anticipate future needs for the region and identify short term operational requirements to be built into annual work plans.
- Adjust work locations for staff based on safety risks associated with the social disorder present in specific parks.
- Adjust operational focus based on constantly evolving direction and priorities.
- Negotiate and manage leases and contracts to ensure continuous, uninterrupted service.
- Manage relationships with external partners.
- Develop downtown park safety plans in conjunction with Calgary Police Service, Emergency Management and Community Safety, Corporate Security, Community Strategies, and others.
- Liaise regularly with Facility Management to ensure effective operation of parks building assets and provide landscaping and horticultural services to important Facility Management-operated buildings, including the Municipal Complex.
- Work closely with events and bookings to ensure successful and organized execution of park activations.
- Respond to citizen and councillor requests.

**Qualifications**
***A completed 2-year diploma in horticultural studies or a related field and at least 8 years of directly related experience; OR
An undergraduate degree in landscape, architecture, urban studies, management, business or a related field and at least 6 years of directly related experience.
Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
A valid Standard First Aid certificate is required.
A personal vehicle for business use is required.
A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, and no current suspensions or charges pending is required.
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.
Experience with a Geographic Information System (GIS) and a Work Order Asset Management System (WAM) are considered as assets.
Experience with PeopleSoft Human Capital Management (HCM) and PeopleSoft Financials and Supply Chain Management (FSCM) are considered as assets.
This position requires well-developed skills in: relationship building, analytical thinking, change management, communication, project management, leadership, and conflict resolution along with a strong customer orientation.
Excellent negotiation and contract management skills, political acumen, and tactical planning ability.
