**Overview**: As a Lead Hand/Excavator Operator, you will be responsible for operating heavy equipment, primarily excavators, and working with the crew to ensure the successful completion of underground construction projects. You will play a key role in maintaining safety, quality, and efficiency on job sites while adhering to project specifications and timelines.

**Responsibilities**:

- Operate excavators and other heavy equipment safely and efficiently to perform excavation, trenching, loading & unloading equipment and placing shoring into excavations.
- Operate heavy equipment in tight space and around existing utilities.
- Work with crew to complete various sewer and water utility repairs (including trenchless methods).
- Ability to supervise construction laborers as needed, providing guidance, instruction, and support to ensure that work is performed according to project requirements and safety standards.
- Help plan and delegate daily activities for the construction crew, including assigning tasks, scheduling equipment usage, and ensuring that materials and resources are available as needed.
- Enforce safety protocols and procedures on job sites, conducting regular safety inspections, and addressing any safety concerns or violations immediately.
- Assist in training and mentoring construction crew members, ensuring that they understand their roles, responsibilities, and safety requirements.
- Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment to ensure proper functioning and address any maintenance or repair issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, equipment usage, and materials used, and report any issues or deviations from project plans to the project management team.
- Collaborate with the foreman, subcontractors, and suppliers to coordinate activities and resolve any conflicts or issues that arise during construction.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment as needed, and communicate any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate personnel.

**Skills & Qualifications**:

- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in heavy equipment operation is preferred.
- Proven experience operating excavators and other heavy equipment in underground construction or a related field.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively lead and supervise a construction crew.
- Thorough knowledge of excavation techniques, safety regulations, and equipment operation procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Physical fitness and stamina to perform manual labor and operate heavy equipment in various weather conditions and environments.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and overtime as required.
- Experience working with concrete and pipelaying an asset.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 8 months

Pay: $28.00-$34.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 - 60 per week
