**About Our Opportunity**:
Working under the direction and supervision of the Coordinator, Project Management, the Inspector Specialist is responsible for providing inspection services for programs to private homeowners, apartment owners, co-operatives and non-profit agencies and provincially owned buildings.

**Primary Accountabilities**:
In this position you can expect to:

- make recommendations on homeowner repairs;
- complete new construction inspections;
- prepare bid forms;
- write technical reports;
- prepare job estimates;
- complete progress payments; and
- ensure compliance with National / Provincial / Municipal building codes and standards.

You will also provide sound technical advice to owners and contractors ensuring sound building practices and workmanship.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
Completion of a related technical trade (Electrical, Plumbing, General Construction, etc,) or training in the area of specialty plus three (3) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable. Building Technology / Construction Administration Technology / Building Technician qualifications would be considered an asset. Red Seal Endorsement and/or certification with the Building Inspector's Association of Nova Scotia is highly desirable.

Supervisory experience in the inspection of residential and light commercial construction as well as knowledge of National / Provincial / Municipal building codes and standards are required. You must be comfortable working with computers and have experience with software programs including Microsoft Office. Current knowledge of building codes, mechanical and electrical systems, working knowledge of construction and renovation of housing are required.

Provision of technical advice is also necessary as is the ability to read construction plans and specifications. Also required is the ability to administer / oversee capital projects in the field, work with limited supervision, and be highly organized. The ability to develop a strong working knowledge of housing programs offered by the Department is essential.

In addition to the above, you must be able to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with colleagues, clients and contractors as well as work well with all partners to support program delivery. You are a problem solver who plans in advance to ensure colleagues and clients are informed and supported when issues or questions arise.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

**Working Conditions**:
Some of your time will be spent in a comfortable office environment but field inspections are a large component of the job, requiring frequent travel to worksites.
