Literacy Central Vancouver Island (LCVI), a local community based non-profit and social enterprise located in Nanaimo, BC, is seeking a committed individual to join our talented and knowledgeable team. LCVI is an incorporated society and has been in operation for over 30 years supporting community learners from diverse backgrounds with various levels of literacy. This role primarily manages the Society’s funds, ensuring that an adequate control structure is in place over the receipt, recording and disbursement of funds in order to minimize risk. The role also demonstrates and provides management over various operational aspects of the organization.

FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING & REPORTING
- Maintain in accordance with established accounting policies and procedures
- Manage outsourced functions like Merchant service agreement regarding POS terminal
- Manage employee and organization’s insurance plan
- Review and correct entries made into the cash sheets and accounting system
- Monthly inventory count and adjustment
- Code and enter all invoices; retail, office supplies, bills and payments: and process such payment either online or via cheque
- Prepare financial reporting for grants (CALP, BC Gaming, DECODA etc)
- Maintain banking relationships and reconcile bank accounts
- Report to Executive Director on variances from the established budget
- Ensure all statutory requirements are met including Provincial and Goods and Services Sales Tax fillings, Charitable Status, withholding payments (CPP, EI) etc.
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements
- Prepare year end financials and coordinate with the external accountant
- Create additional analyses and reports as requested by the Executive Director
- Assist with the preparation of the yearly Budget
- Process payroll:

- process and submit statutory and benefits remittances including T4s and T4s
- ensure employees and contractors are paid in a timely and accurate manner
- Assist the Executive Director with day-to-day operations as assigned from time to time

Additional Administrative and Office management hours may be available to round out this position. Salary for these tasks would reflect their administrative support nature.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
- proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) with intermediate to advanced Excel skills and familiarity with accounting software such as Sage 50 and Quickbooks; strong bookkeeping, payroll and accounts management a must
- Must have strong and demonstrated attention to detail and follow instructions on how to complete tasks as well as follow up with supervisor and key stakeholders to ensure completion of tasks
- Must be able to work quickly under pressure while being organized.
- must be able to multitask effectively under pressure while maintaining a high level of accuracy in completing tasks.
- must be able to work independently without supervision
- must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- must be able to work in a team environment and maintain a high level of confidentiality as well as exhibit good organizational skills
- must have strong analytical skills including number skills, problem solving skills, data analysis skills
- must have experience in preparing different types of financial reporting documents to track overall financial health of an organization
- experience in the non-profit sector and with a social enterprise that includes a retail component also an asset.

**Education**:

- Preferred bachelors degree in related field or certificate/diploma in Accounting, Bookeeping or related
- Minimum or 2 years experience preferred

**Job Type**: Part-time
Part-time hours: 22.5 per week

**Salary**: $27.00-$27.50 per hour
